Lots of news this month to carry us over the summer hiatus with a fast reminder that the alumni fund needs your check by July 1.

After a leave of absence to study at Harvard as a Nieman Fellow, Bud Nossiter, back at the Washington Post, has been assigned to Europe to cover international economic affairs. Houghton, Mifflin has just published Bud's book, "The Myth Makers," an essay on power and wealth. No price was given, but it might be nice to contribute to the Nossiter Welfare Fund by purchasing same.

From the Ryerson Steel public relations office we learn that Bob Harvey has been awarded his second rise in rank in one year. Earlier this year Bob was appointed assistant general manager of Ryerson's Boston service center. Now he has moved up to general manager. Bob first went with Ryerson back in 1955 when the Arthur C. Harvey Co. of Boston, for which he was manager of aluminum sales, was acquired by Ryerson. Since 1958, and prior to his managerial appointment in Boston last January, Bob had served as national marketing manager for aluminum products at Ryerson's general office.

Just received a delightful letter from Al Colton who was Vice-Dean and Canon Chancellor at the newly finished Grace Cathedral in San Francisco. Al is now ensconced in a new position as Rector of St. Francis' Episcopal Church, San Fernando Way at Ocean Avenue in San Francisco. His home address is also changed to 325 Castenada Avenue, San Francisco 94116. Al goes on to say: "I am excited about the prospect of having a church of my own, although I also regret leaving the Grace Cathedral staff just when we are ready to complete this spectacular edifice. I am now quite used to the round collar and forget I have it on unless I notice the fishy looks of old friends who knew me when.

"But it's a great life and Liz and our two children are in fine shape. I hope that now that I'm settled for a long spell I can get active again in alumni affairs here." Delighted to hear from you, Al, and our best wishes in the new rectory.

Planning can be so fruitful when you do it right. Fenn Lewis's wife, Mary Virginia gave her husband a birthday present of a baby daughter. Her name is Lee Baker Lewis honoring both grandmothers and crisscrossing the Mason-Dixon Line. Lee joins two brothers; Tommy (19) and Fenn (3).

Hopefully we'd like to hear from BobMackinnon in Hurley, N. Y., over a rumor that he will be running for District Attorney of Ulster County this fall. Bob has practiced law for ten years in Kingston where he is attorney for the township and for the Kingston City School district. Lots of luck if you decide to run.

Dick Shribman is a candidate for the town meeting board in Lynn, Mass. Dick, who is in the real estate and insurance business, was the '64 chairman of the March of Dimes plus being president of the American Red Cross.

Ken Drew is also seeking re-election to the Florham Park, N. J., Borough Council. Ken is president of the Council plus being a volunteer fireman and member of the Borough Planning Board. He works for the Western Electric Company with a variety of assignments, currently coordinating labor rations activities in the eastern region of the Manufacturing Division. Joyce and his two daughters are happy to see him when he comes home to 36 Briarwood Road.

With the variety of vocations found in our class, we have finally made the Canaveral scene. Roland Miller has joined the John F. Kennedy Space Center on the missile launch team where he is an aerospace technologist in the facilities division. He graduated from Elgin High School in Elgin, Ill., and his degree at Dartmouth is Civil Engineering.

We are still anxious to hear, after the horrible earthquake in Anchorage, from our own Dr. John Tower, as to how he and his wife Elizabeth, also a physician, and their three children made out. We know you are busy, John, but a short note would be most appreciative.

Dex Brooks has finally achieved many people's dream of publishing his own newspaper, the Westport, Conn., News. Dex has had an active career in the field of finance and at the age of 32 was vice-president, finance, of a large and diversified national holding company. Later he became vicepresident and treasurer of the Murray Corporation of America, a multi-division manufacturing company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Prior to this, with the firm of Booz, Allen & Hamilton, he was a consultant to many of America's greatest corporations. At least he can get his own byline now.

And finally, news that Fritz Alexander has been elected to the New York City Mission Society's board of directors. The Society, a non-denominational Protestant agency, conducts recreational and educational programs and religious services as needed for children and adults in 38 churches in Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn. It also operates a camp for teenagers and for family groups plus a camp for senior citizens. Fritz, a partner in the law firm of Dyett, Alexander and Dinkins, is associate general counsel of Harlem Youth Opportunities Unlimited, Inc. He is chairman of the board of governors of Carver Democratic Club, member of the Law Committee, New York County Democratic Party, and the Committee on Municipal Affairs of New York County Lawyers' Association. He is also active in the Urban League of Greater New York, the N.A.A.C.P., and a member of the American ludicature Society. He has our admiration for his many, many, community activities.

Was delightfully surprised to bump into Frank Weber on the 9th hole of the Waccabuc, N. Y., Country Club. Frank's re- ported nine hole score, indicates that if he will part with a few strokes, we might be able to make a financially desirable match.

And with golf course in mind, we slide into the dream world of sunshine and greenswards. Don't forget your alumni check.
