Just to put a nice negative finis to the glorious summer, do you realize that as you read this, the class of 1966 is registering as freshmen in Hanover! Quite a shock to all us young folk, but, nevertheless, time does seem to improve our lot as witness the many pieces of news which have accumulated over the summer.
“Bud” Nossiter, now National Affairs Reporter with the Washington Post, is going back to school and to of all places Harvard, where he received his Master’s after leaving Hanover. Bernard D. has been honored with a Nieman Fellowship, given to elevate and promote the standards of jour- nalism. The reporters who win this award are permitted to pursue the studies of their choice at Harvard to strengthen their back- ground for journalism. Our best wishes. Bud, to you, Jacqueline and the three Nos- siters for this fine achievement.
Fritz Alexander has been appointed Di- rector of the Upper Manhattan District of the New York City Rent and Rehabilitation Administration. Fritz continues as a partner in the law firm of Dyett, Alexander and Dinkins. Since a large percentage of New York City dwellers have to resort to au- thority to get the landlord to turn up the heat, you can imagine that Fritz’s job is going to be no sinecure. For those of you who live in Upper Manhattan (Bob Kirsch and A 1 Gasner, for example) you might let your landlords in on the fact that your classmate is a very important person. Who knows it might get the ceiling of your hall closet a paint job.
The National Association of Life Under- writers has announced that Dick Menin has been elected to the Million Dollar Round Table for the sixth year in a row. To those not in insurance, this means Dick has sold a million dollars’ worth of insurance in each of the preceding years. In addition, we have just been informed that Dick passed all the tests given for the coveted “Certi- fied Life Underwriter” certificate. The un- usual factor here is that Dick passed four of the five so-called annual tests all in a group last June. And he did it the week prior to reunion where he did an outstand- ing job as Program Chairman. Quite a guy!
James C. Davis Jr. of Carlisle, Mass., has been elected a vice president of Spec- tran Electronics Corp. of Maynard, Mass. Jim, as an engineer- scientist, has made ma- jor contributions to Spectran’s rapid growth including the electronics used in the company’s line of spectrum analyzers. After getting his M.S. at Thayer in 1948, Jim taught at Piedmont College, Ga., until he joined Raytheon Company in 1953. While there as a senior engineer, he developed pulse-compression radar and magnetostric- tive filter circuits in addition to inventing the “Raysister” which he described to the “Na- tional Convention on Military Electronics” in 1960. (We don’t know what it means either, but it sounds very important Ed. note.) Anyway, Jim and Wendy have our private wah-hoo-wahs to go along with the many congratulations from their friends. They are living with three little Davises on East Street in Carlisle, Mass.

Bill Bailey did come home (boy. you must be tired of that, Bill) to tell Emily that he had just been made a vice president of Aetna Casualty and Surety Company. After grad- uating from you know where, Bill received his Master’s from Wharton and then joined the National Bureau of Casualty Under- writers before going with Aetna in 1954 as assistant secretary. Bill now lives at 29 Har- vest Lane in West Hartford, Conn.

A temporary puzzle has now been solved by ye olde Sherlock; Ralph is a past president of the Dartmouth Rotary Club, and that was the puzzle until it was finally determined that Ralph lives in South Dart- mouth, Mass., and that he has not founded a combination of Dartmouths and Rotari- ans.
