Freshmen, football, pretty girls receiving 'mums and we know it is fall. Speaking of freshmen, age is creeping up with a nephew of ye Ed. already ensconced in Hanover and at least one '47 with a son entering this year's freshman class. Sort of makes one think the leaves are turning all over the world, lots of news, however, before we get too old to write, so here we go.

The classmate with the son entering this year's freshman class is Charles Langley, Lt. Col. U.S. Marine Corp. Chuck is Executive Officer in the Second Service Battalion, 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N. C. He just received his silver leaves from his boss, Jim Donovan '39; so at least the Battalion is in good hands.

It's getting to be a habit, but we have to report that Dick Menin has done it again by receiving the Vanguard award from the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company, which, in insurance circles, is extremely hard to come by. As readers of this column know, Dick seems to keep adding, each year to the many recognitions of his ability in this field. Our sincerest congratulations go with this one.

A four-month-old news release tells us that Ed Roundy resigned as Exeter High School principal which the school board accepted with great regret. Ed has been principal for six years having started with the high school in 1948. He played a major role in evaluating school needs and materially taking over the planning for school expansion. Our problem, of course is that now curiosity demands to know where Ed is and what prompted his decision to leave. We certainly hope to hear from him shortly and will let you know.

St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, Mass., intelligently promoted Dr. RalphBrackett to the senior medical staff. Ralph maintains his offices in New Bedford for the practice of obstetrics and gynecology. He received his M.D. from Harvard and served his internship at Mary Hitchcock with his residency at the Mayo Foundation in Rochester, Minn.

Another doctor for females, John Garry, gave a talk last spring which indicates extreme courage. His subject: "The American Woman - Marvel or Myth." Dr. Garry, who is extremely active in the community affairs of Beverly, Mass., received his M.D. from Harvard and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

The Market Research Department of the MoorMan Mfg. Co. lost the service of Harry Krummel when he was promoted to assistant department head of Sales Management Records. Harry has been with MoorMan's for 11 years serving in various departments. He was in both the Army and the Navy (he must go crazy at the Army, Navy football game) and is married to the former Eileen Higgins who parentized over three girls and a boy.

Connecticut's Governor Dempsey appointed William Bailey, now VP of the Underwriters Department, Aetna Casualty and Surety Co., to a committee to study all phases of the state's insurance coverage. Bailey received his master's degree from Wharton School of Finance and has been with Aetna since 1954. Great restraint has been used here in not again going into that "why don't you come home" bit.

Our all-star Olympic hockey player, BruceMather, is one of 45 American businessmen awarded Alfred P. Sloane fellowships to study industrial management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Bruce is District Traffic Superintendent for the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company and, as everyone knows, an all-Ivy hockey player who skated in the 1948 Olympics, the world tournament in Stockholm, and who played professionally with the Boston Olympics. Knowing Bruce's many capabilities the award of this fellowship comes as no surprise.

Our news letter editor, who can't send out his news letter until he reads these notes, has not been found out yet and, therefore, was elected VP of the Class News Letter Editors Association, where I am sure he will continue to do as fine a job as he does for his own class.

Congratulations are due on the great job class agent Townes Harris did and the backing of the class in general to achieve the greatest Alumni Fund in the history of the college.
