JUNE 1964 WILLIAM H. WHITE, JOHN J. FEIDMAN

The count-down has begun. Our "tremendous tenth" and the fate of all the good efforts of Tom Kelsey and his excellent reunion committee are in the hands of the weatherman. There is much excitement planned and unplanned in store for us, and with a break in the weather we can be reasonably sure of having a most memorable and enjoyable weekend.

Dave Mandelbaum, his wife Rosemary, my wife Jane, and I just returned from attending the annual alumni class officers meeting in Hanover. We wished we could have bottled the weather for our reunion - it was gorgeous. The highlight of the weekend came at the stag luncheon on Saturday when Dave received the award as class treasurer of the year. Five minutes later Dave returned to the speaker's platform to accept on behalf of our Jack Feldman the John R. Mason Trophy, one of three awards given to outstanding alumni fund class agents. It was a big day for '54 and both awards were certainly well deserved. Friday night we had dinner with the Seaver Peters and the Bruce McAllisters, who are good illustrations of the fact that life in Hanover affords a great deal. Saturday afternoon we had cocktails at Seave and Sally's home while watching the Kentucky Derby.

Some of you may be curious to know more about the fellow who is receiving all those reunion checks. Tom Sayles was recently elected an assistant vice-president of the Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company here in New York City. Tom commutes daily from Chatham, N. J., where he resides with his wife, Pat, and their two children. From Dearborn, Mich., comes word that Ted Werner has been named finance administrator in the finance office of the Ford Motor Company's international staff. Before his appointment he held positions as supervisor, personnel and budgets section, in the Automotive Assembly Division, and analyst in the Ford Division. Ted is married to the former Sally K. Sharp, and they have one child, Keith 8., age two. They are presently living in Birmingham, a suburb of Detroit. H. M. Payson & Co., oldest investment banking firm in the state of Maine, recently announced election of three new general partners. One of the new general partners is Jack Pierce, who started with the firm in July, 1958. Jack is a director of Emery-Waterhouse Co. and Community Broadcasting Co. and a corporator of Children's Hospital, the Maine Medical Center, and the Maine Savings Bank. He is a director of Catherine Morrill Day Nursery and treasurer of Unmarried Parents Services and Adoption Agency. Jack and his family live outside Portland in Falmouth. A Department of State news release informs us that BillMansfield, presently assigned to the American Embassy is Oslo, Norway, was recently promoted from Foreign Service Officer Class 6 to Foreign Service Officer Class 5. After leaving us at graduation, Bill studied at the University of London and received a Master's degree from Boston University, and as a career foreign officer he has served in Washington, D. C., and Libreville, Gabon.

Early last month some of you may have seen Tom Corcoran's name on the sports page of the New York Times. Tom is an assistant to the president of the Aspen Skiing Corporation and recently placed third in a giant slalom at the Rock Cup races at Aspen, Colo. He is, as you may know, the racer who holds the distinction of being the only American to place as high as fourth in an Olympic giant slalom. The State Mutual Life Assurance Company of America in Worcester, Mass., announced that NormanT. Ross, planning analyst, was elected an officer of the company and named manager, planning. Norm joined the company as an underwriter after graduation, and he is an alternate member of the Life Office Management Association's North Atlantic planning committee. He lives in Framingham, Mass. One classmate is scheduled to be married this month, and I doubt we could persuade him to join us at reunion for his honeymoon. Miss Catherine Hill Farlow is the June bride who will marry Sinclair H.Hitchings. Miss Farlow was graduated from the Beaver Country Day School and Goucher College.

Much has been said about the need for everyone to contribute generously to this year's alumni fund drive, and I shall not belabor the point. Suffice it to say that if your contribution is not already in Hanover we are hopeful that it will be before the month closes. A good showing by our class would be a nice way of thanking Jack Feldman and his co-workers for their hard work over the past four years.

Looking forward to seeing all of you who plan to be in Hanover for our "tremendous tenth." To those of you who are unable to attend the weekend festivities, this will have to serve as my wish that the summer will be a pleasant one for each of you.

Dave Picker '53 (r), vice president ofUnited Artists Corp., accepts from JackLemmon the Oscar won by "Tom Jones"as the best motion picture of the year.
