BEFORE that summer arrives, Dartmouth will wind up this academic year with the pomp and ceremony of its 195 th Commencement on Sunday morning, June 14. The Class of 1964, which entered college 799 strong, will provide all but fifty or so of the estimated 695 seniors to get degrees, with the rest coming from the Classes of 1958 through 1963.
The valedictory on behalf of the graduating class will be given by Michael Jay Landay '64 of Pittsburgh, a Senior Fellow and Phi Beta Kappa student. Other speakers at the final exercises on Baker Library's lawn will be President Dickey and Prime Minister Jean Lesage of Canada's Province of Quebec.
The Commencement Weekend program will follow a traditional pattern, with Class Day on Friday, ROTC graduation in the Bema on Saturday morning, and Commencement luncheon and General Alumni Association meeting in the Leverone Field House on Saturday afternoon. America's leading Air Force ace, Major General John C. Meyer '41, will be the guest speaker at the ROTC commissioning ceremony. General Meyer is now commander of the U. S. Tactical Air Command's 12th Air Force in Waco, Texas.
The Dartmouth classes holding official reunions during Commencement Weekend are 1899, 1904, 1909, and 1914. On Monday, June 15, the four Classes of 1918, 1919, 1920, and 1924 will be in town for reunions running through Wednesday. On Thursday, June 18, the 25-Year Class of 1939 will arrive to begin its four-day reunion and will be the guests of the College at a reception and dinner that evening. This year's other reunion classes — 1943, 1944, 1945, and 1954 - will join 1939 on Friday and remain until Sunday.
