By the time you read this the first term of the current academic year will be history, and also an integral part of the whole experience for the students. It is a pleasure to report that this term has gone well - the great majority of the students have survived in grand fashion and, now that they are over the hump, exhibit fine enthusiasm. Having had our first snow, we have witnessed the emergence of skis and boots and ruddy cheeks as the men return from the slopes and well-deserved relaxation. To a new observer, things appear to be quite normal.

Mr. Davis spoke at the annual meeting of the Association of National Advertisers in Hot Springs, Va., early in November. His topic was "Education for Tomorrow's Advertising Management." ... Mr.Mayer spoke at a marketing seminar at M.I.T. on November 5.... Mr. Guest has been appointed to the executive committee of a new branch of the American Sociological Association.... Mr. Bower published an article in the Journal of Industrial Economics entitled "Decreasing Marginal Cost in Brick Production."

Before we move into the business world, my secretary informs me that we are way behind on wedding announcements. In fact, there is a great possibility that we have missed a few, due to the intervening summer months, and if so we apologize. However, we will attempt to catch up by naming the following: Gary Schwartz T'63 married Miss Nona Ann Levine; Al Hobart T'63 and Miss Jane Tulipan tied the knot recently, as did Mike D'Elia T'63 and Miss Margaret Norman. Also Bob Giles T'64 and Miss Shirley Smith in Birmingham, Michigan, and Fred Whittemore T'54 and Miss Marion Willi in New York City.

To change the order and put the prettier partner first, Miss Carol Wallack was married to Nathan Metzger T'57, and Miss Deborah Metcalf to Richie Francis III T'64. Down in Alabama, Stroud Curran T'64 married Miss Mary Lyons; while in California, Miss Judith Grace Jones became the bride of Gordon Craig Hally T'58.

Two recent engagements: Miss Lillian Pollack to Stan Bergman T'56, and Miss Linda Franks to Dave Rogers T'64.

Now back to the business world. ElmoreHammesfahr T'29 has been named to head a new research division to conduct studies in public affairs for the National Industrial Conference Board. Elmore, an assistant vice president at NICB, has been with the conference board since 1949 and now assumes leadership of the important Division of Public Affairs.... Ed Concannon T'49 has been named a vice president at Young & Rubicam in New York.... Orton Hicks Jr. T'50 has been named director, America House, Cologne. His previous assignments with the United States Information Service have been in Darmstadt, Germany and at the U.S. Embassy at Oslo.... Bob Cohen T'51 has been elevated from executive vice president to president of Navajo Freight Lines in Denver. Bob started with this company as secretary in 1953 and has gone up the long ladder to the top, during which time the company's gross income has risen from about eight million annually to an estimated 40 million this year.

At Procter and Gamble two Tuck men have recently been promoted. Don Campbell T'53 was made marketing manager of P & G's professional services division, and Tryg Myhren T'60 was made unit sales manager in Buffalo.

Bob Titterington T'60 has joined Production Machinery Corporation as controller and assistant to the president.

In community service we have an announcement that Bob Smith Jr. T'43, executive vice president of Smith & Klebes of New Britain, Conn., will serve as vice chairman of the community chest program for that area.
