THE general outlook for basketball this year is a little brighter than it was last year. It would be much brighter if Jack Lockhart could play. During last Christmas vacation Lockhart was felled with rheumatic fever and was lost for the year. During the few games that he played he was our leading scorer and rebounder. We had every hope that he would be able to play but the doctors have decided against his participation in basketball this year. However, we are picking up a boy who could not play last year in the person of Chris Kinum and he should help us quite a bit. Pete Dunlop, last year's sophomore forward, is improving and is battling for a starting job.
We are getting a little help from the freshman squad in the back court, namely Joe Colgan and Billie Stahl. This will give us adequate back-court personnel but we are very thin up front. This has necessitated the shifting of guards Waugh and Benedict to forwards. Malm, who was a forward, was changed to a center when Lockhart was stricken and will continue at the pivot position.
The squad has been working particularly hard these last few weeks and the spirit is good. We have a little better overall speed than we have had for awhile and this should help. The squad is going through practice sessions with enthusiasm and we hope this will carry over into the season.
