_ .. Although no bonfires have blazed to honor their achievements, the Forensic Union debating teams have contributed to the euphoria of the fall with a number of exceptional performances. During one weekend alone the teams coached by Prof. Herbert James of the Speech Department returned to campus with six individual speaker awards at three different debate tournaments a proud record for any college or university and very much in the tradition of Dartmouth debating in recent years.

At the top-rank Annual Peachtree Debate Tournament at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., the Dartmouth men competed against teams from 65 other major colleges and universities. The team of Robert E. Walter Jr. '68 and John M. Isaacson '68 had a record of 6 and 2 and reached the tourney's final round; and Walter and Isaacson won first and second honors, respectively, in extemporaneous speaking. Neil B. Danberg Jr. '66 was voted the tournament's best speaker.

At the Amherst College tournament John R. Pillar '69 was selected for best speaker honors, and at the Rufus King Debate Tournament at Queens College, New York, Charles G. Rancourt '67 was runner-up in speaking honors and teammate Donald C. Pogue '69 was third best. Some 35 Eastern area colleges competed in the Queens College event.
