Time's a-flittin', so don't get caught just sittin' and not be on hand back in Hanover in three and a half months. It's no longer the old familiar cry of 31 UP! Now it's 35 UP and comin' !! Polish up the old Boy Scout slogan and "be prepared" to show up and have the time of your life renewing old acquaintances and just having a darn good time together.
Just read down the list of names in Bill Benger's January 18 Newsletter and I'll be a whole flock of wonderful memories will start flowing through your mind - and it memories are wonderful just think of now much more fun it will be to relive them with the flesh and blood guys who originally created with you the incidents and situations and events that are now the basis of the memories. ,
Ori Hobbs has certainly taken his job of reunion chairman to heart and is doing a wonderful job of getting the show on the road. His executive ability in picking working assistants is showing up, because the assistants are really working!
Last night (January 27) six of the ten (the other three live nowhere near Boston) members of the committee reported at Ori's home armed for work - but not until after some mighty nice cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and a delicious dinner prepared by "June" plus a lot of entertaining and interesting conversation had taken place and been thoroughly enjoyed. One additional and very helpful pleasantry was the fact that Bill Steck arranged to be in town and joined the five of us more or less "local" Bostonians, namely, Hobbs, Boermeister, Burrill,McCarthy, and Wolff. Johnnie Benson had "the bug" that's hitting people hard in our area or he would have been with us.
I'm not kidding when I say that the committee workers came "armed for work" because each one who had been given an assignment had really carried through and was armed to the hilt with facts, correspondence, recommendations and/or decisions as the case warranted. All the important items that require attention were given a workout one by one until each one was resolved to the point where we were all satisfied with the results. Ori's executive abilities showed up again in this respect, i.e., there was no foolin". no foolin'! Business was the item of the evening and business he got, by gosh! so that by eleven o'clock most of the details that will assure us of a successful reunion program were very well wrapped up.
Hank and Bill headed North for the hills this morning determined to clean up a few "loose ends" that can only be polished off correctly and completely by being right in Hanover.
From my point of view as secretary I can assure you that this is a mighty business-like committee that is doing a terrific job! And in order to keep your mind on the subject of reunion and to encourage you to be on hand in June, I'm not going to divert your attention by putting in any other news items. Just realize please — ITS NOT A MYTH! IT'S YOUR 35th! COME WHILE YOU CAN!
