We had a disappointing class turn-out of only five at the Boston Alumni Association dinner in February. Prior to the dinner we held an interesting discussion with DonHunt on his activities in seeking the release of his son-in-law, Vladimir Kazan, from Czechoslovakia, which occurred the very next day. Chet Eaton was the only one who was accompanied by his wife, Blanche. Johnnie Garrod reported that while Dru's basic condition had improved considerably (which was good news), she was besieged with a nasty cold. Their New Hampshire address, where they spend most weekends, is Thornton Road, New Boston. Ken Nugent reported that Lydia was recovering nicely from her recent fall but thought it inadvisable to attend the dinner on crutches. They were planning to go to Florida in February and remain until the middle of March. JoeLeavitt was reported to have had quite a siege in the hospital since late in the fall during which he underwent three successive operations.

Bob Weinig got quite a spread in the Sunday edition of the Sioux City Journal recently when he was quoted as being an "optimistic fatalist." Bob has cut quite a swath in the field of radio since graduating, being vice president and general manager of Wincharger Corp., a subsidiary of Zenith Radio Corp., since 1940. In addition he has been active in civic affairs, serving as president of the Sioux City Y.M.C.A. for nine years. He is a past president of Rotary Club and The Knife & Fork Club and has served as a director of the local Chamber of Commerce. He is also a past president of the lowa Manufacturers Association and has served as a director of the National Association of Manufacturers. Bob has also been active in the United Fund and the Boy Scouts.

Ken Sullivan, who retired last year as secretary and treasurer of the Phoenix Mutual Life, has accepted an assignment with the International Executive Service Corps to serve as a volunteer executive in Bolivia with the Corporation Minera de Bolivia (Comibol), consisting of some ten mining units, wholly government owned. The project assignment is to advise in the improvement of paper work systems, create a manual of procedures and to coordinate the present system with computerized data processing. Ken will be accompanied by his wife on this mission, which is expected to last three or four months.

Your secretary succeeded in getting away from home for nine days in February to enjoy excellent skiing conditions in North Conway, where as usual he met Lew White, who had just completed a fast run down one of Mt. Cranmore's trails.

We recently gleaned an insight into LarryBankart's busy schedule. In addition to earning his bread and butter in the laundry and dry cleaning business, Larry serves on the boards of the Minuteman Council of Boy Scouts and the Arlington Boys' Club (being chairman of the Aquatic Committee) and as a trustee of the Belmont Hill School (chairman of Parents' Fund). His favorite hobby is fly fishing, which finds him at Rapid River, Me., for trout and salmon in the spring; at Monomoy, Cape Cod, for blue fish in the summer, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia for Atlantic salmon in the fall. Larry's youngest son, Alan, is captain of the swimming team and another son, Stephen, is on the J.V. hockey team at Belmont Hill School. Another son, Peter, is a senior at Dartmouth and president of the Outing Club. His wife Louise also keeps busy as president of the Arlington Visiting Nurses Association and vice president of the Symmes Hospital Women's Aid.

We're indebted to Larry Leavitt for the notes which follow. Larry's Foreign Service Officer son-in-law was right in the thick of things in the recent rioting in Managua, Nicaragua. He's looking forward to a firsthand account of the trouble there. WaltVOID Lehn writes: "We were away three months 'down under' and enjoying the islands, beaches, surf, sand and coconut palms along the way to and from New Zealand and Australia." Johnny Brownellret retired over a year ago and left in February for a four-months' trip around the world. Jack Robison's son, John Jr., graduated June 12, was in the Army June 24, and is now in Officers' Candidate School at Fort Benning. Harry White was last reported as playing at the Holiday Inn in Parkersburg, W. Va. For the first time in two years he is able to see with both eyes, having had separate cataract operations.
