As the Winter Term speeds to a close, the faculty and students find themselves intensively occupied with the completion of laboratory and design projects. Oral reports will be presented by juniors, seniors, and graduate students in the last week of the term and one finds himself hard pressed to choose among these capable and interesting presentations of student work. Courses in which oral reports will be given include Solid Mechanics, Professor Edgerton; Fluid Dynamics, Professor Wallis; Internship in Engineering, Professors Dean and Sherrard; and the fifth-year engineering project under the general direction of Professor Ermenc.

At this time the annual series of town meetings will be held. In looking over the reports, we are impressed with the participation of the Thayer School faculty in local public affairs. Professor Carl Long is Chairman of the Hanover Planning Board, and Professor Bill Kimball '29 is a member of this board. Bill will discuss a proposed transportation study for Hanover to be sponsored by Hanover, the State of New Hampshire, and the Federal Bureau of Public Roads. Professor Ed Brown '35 is Public Health Officer for Hanover, and Chairman of the Town Zoning Board of Adjustment. Professor Russ Stearns '38 is a member of the Lebanon Regional Airport Authority.

Ken LeClair, Assistant Professor of Civil Engineering at Thayer School in the 1950's, is a member of the Hanover Board of Selectmen. Ken, a consulting engineer in Hanover, has contributed well beyond the call of duty to the organization of town services and the development of facilities and efficient procedures. John Minnich '29, Adjunct Professor, in his capacity as consultant to Dartmouth College has been engaged in foundation evaluation for the soon-to-beconstructed Peter Kiewit Computation Center. This modern facility, made possible by the generous donation of Peter Kiewit D'22, will be constructed on the site formerly occupied by Choate House adjacent to the Bradley Mathematics Center. Choate House joined the parade of moving houses in Hanover and is now across North Main Street.

Tom Tyler '56 sends word from Switzerland where he is Regional Manager for Tyler Refrigeration in Europe and Africa. Tom and Kaye with Terry and Steve visited the U.S. last summer, but are now back in Europe enjoying the skiing on white-capped Pilatus and the Eigental. Christmas greetings from Charlie Weinberg '43 showed their very grown-up children, David, Jean, and Barbara, but he sent no news. Tom Ritner'55 is working hard for Westinghouse outside Baltimore, and lives in Towson, Md.

George Fellers '47 is now a resident of Kensington, Md., and commutes to the Washington office of the Corps of Engineers, U.S. Army. Joe Wattleworth '60 presented a paper, "Study Techniques for Planning Freeway Surveillance and Control," at the 44th Annual Meeting of the Highway Research Board. Joe is Assistant Research Engineer and Assistant Professor of C.E. at the Texas Transportation Institute, Texas A& M.

A most welcome Christmas letter from Bruce Espy '41 informs us that he resides in a new home in Paradise Hills, Golden, Col., atop Lookout Mountain overlooking the city of Denver. Bruce is busily engaged in the ice and cold storage business as Secretary-Treasurer and General Manager of City Ice Co. Joe Palermo '59 is now involved full time at Tuck School studying for the M.B.A. The academic load plus some individual research and development work and the demands made by four energetic children keep Joe more than busy.

Neil Drobny '64 keeps us well informed about his stimulating activities which recently have included travel to the east coast to observe and monitor for the U.S. Navy the effects of detergents in spray-cleaning processes, and visits to Ann Arbor, Mich., Cherry Point, N. C., and Alameda, Calif., preparatory for a trip to the Antarctic. Neil visited Hawaii, Samoa, and New Zealand on his way to a 30-day inspection tour of Antarctic bases, including the South Pole. The new organizational chart of Raymond International Inc. shows Cliff Simmons '40 as Asst. Vice President for the Central Region. Cliff is located in Detroit.

A recent visit to Thayer School by Emerson Houck '58 provided the information that he is Manager, Industrial Engineering Methods and Layout, for Eli Lilly and Co. Em was at Dartmouth on a recruiting trip for Eli Lilly which has gained quite a bit from Thayer. Bill Batt '61 is in the Economic Studies Dept. of their Market Research Division. Bob Baxley '64 is working in Emerson's Industrial Engineering Dept.
