At the annual Alumni Fund Class Agents Dinner in New York City on April 7, Richard W. Bandfield '49 (r) received the Harvey P. Hood Trophy as the 1964 campaign's outstanding head agent of a class 10 to 25 years out of college. In making the presentation, Fund Chairman Rupert C. Thompson Jr. '28 read the following citation:
Just as is the case in your profession of a life insurance agent, there is no precise formula for success in Alumni Fund activity. However, it is apparent that the same characteristics which have led you to eminence in your profession have put you and your Class of 1949 at the top in the Group VI Green Derby competition. During your five-year tenure as Head Agent you have set up a regional organization which has become the prototype for many other classes, and you have created also a meaningful system for inter-agent competition which has stimulated your Agents to outstanding achievements. Each year has seen steady improvement in your Class results and last year's 30% increase in dollar total and 18% increase in contributors over 1963 testifies to your great leadership efforts. The Alumni Fund Committee salutes you, and your Class of 1949, by presenting you tonight with the Harvey P. Hood Trophy for 1964 - honoring you as the outstanding Head Agent of a class ten to 25 years out of College.
