Coach Buddy Teevens ’79 previews the coming football season.
“We have a high level of experience returning to the field, a confident and time-tested group,” says the coach. “The execution should be enhanced. And I believe we have some good depth, which we’ll need because we have a challenging schedule.” Offense: The two-quarterback system continues, with Dalyn Williams ’16 and Alex Park ’14. “We won’t change that,” says Teevens. He’s added “a few bells and whistles” to the playbook but won’t say more. The key: “We need to establish a running game, get consistency from our quarterbacks, and see who emerges at tight end.” Defense: “We’ve got to pressure the passer productively against the mobile quarterbacks we’ll be facing. And we need to get more turnovers. Our experienced linebacker corps will need to have a big impact.” special Teams: “We need to perform better than last year, especially in the return game. We’ve also got a freshman at long snapper—an interesting spot to put a young guy in. And we may have strained our kicker last year, having him do kickoffs and punts, so I’m hoping to have one of our other young guys handle the punting.”
