One of the happier assignments of this job is returning annually to Hanover for the May class officers meeting. Spring was just about to bust out after an unseasonable dry spell, and the air had that special essence peculiar to a Hanover spring. Good to be back and see the College in full operation.

Bob McQueen appeared in his official role as our Class Gift chairman, making plans for our 25 th when we present the College with the big dollar. Donna and Bob had the added inspiration of seeing freshman son Scotty, who showed his parents the Hanover golf course, and his father showed him how to shoot an 85 Kelly Coffin, following the migratory instinct, homed on Hanover some 1000 air miles from Atlanta (deserving real recognition for coming so far) and showed up with his father, C. C. Coffin '16, in place of Janie, home in Atlanta. Kelly led Ruthie and me to several intellectual activities including the Hanover Symphony Concert and a pretty good undergraduate folksinger wailing in the Inn Tavern. ... Bob Field and Pauline were there, capping the Hanover visit with a sidetrip to Colby College, where number one son Robert is developing a baseball reputation. Bob is confident that 1943 will get in gear on this Alumni Fund Campaign and start pouring in the contributions. I won't send in mine until I hear from Charlie Dorkey to discover how he made out in that red-hot township commissioner nomination in Wynnewood No Hanover meeting would be complete without Paul Young, who joined us for dinner and helped get places in a very busy Hanover Inn dining room. Paul has made reservations at the Hanover Inn Motor Lodge and the Norwich Inn for our fall reunion on Cornell weekend in November. Little later than usual but we hope many will attend. ... Missing was George Munroe, in Europe on business. ... Saw Tony Farrell and Kathleen in Norwich, a couple thriving on New England's good life.

Facts you hardly hear anymore Of a potential 110 '43s in the metropolitan New York area only 14 are members and 5 nonresident members of the Dartmouth Club of New York. Jim McKeon wants more members from this swinging class. Think what an exclusive club it is, friends! ... Jim Elleman now knows who the stranger was asking for a million unsecured from his Trust Company of Morris County one Friday afternoon. ... Kent Hutchinson, almost a native Californian, has moved into an eastern type two-story home in Palo Alto. Proving his youth, Kent brought home some silver this past winter in a giant slalom at Sugar Bowl. ...

Andy Caffrey tells me there's really nothing new in his life other than a move to a new office. His law firm left the famed Bay State Building in Lawrence, probably in the spirit that brought all that Lawrence redevelopment. Andy Jr. is at Brooks School in North Andover hoping for Dartmouth eventually. Daughter Ellen is a third grader. Clare and Andy have made the last two fall reunions and we'll count on them this year too. ... Bob Bradford has been at Lafayette College in Easton, Pa., since 1953 as associate professor of English. Bob holds an M.A. from Columbia and a Ph.D. from Syracuse. ... Some guys get all the breaks department: Bus Mosbacher, assisted by Pat, has been cruising the Aegean Sea this spring in the company of two fellows associated with the College in some capacity. ... With all Warren Taylor's busy schedule as a thoracic and cardiac surgeon, he has assumed additional duty as chairman, Winchester Board of Health. Thanks to Stan Weld '12 for this info. ... Bill Shumacher, like the circuit rider of old, has appeared in Rutland this winter on important panels discussing mental health. Bill is affiliated with the State of Maine as its director of the Bureau of Mental Health.

Paul Parker whose career since World War II Navy service has included law, politics, government, advertising, marketing, and corporate development, has been elected Vice President of General Mills. He also has been appointed Director of Public Relations. Before joining General Mills in 1956 Paul practiced law in lowa, served as state representative in the lowa legislature, then in 1955-56 was executive assistant to the Governor of lowa. With General Mills he has served in advertising and marketing positions in the company's grocery products division, then as general manager of Canadian operations and as general manager of the international division. Since early 1965 he has supervised work on foreign acquisitions for the corporate development department.

On the west coast George Kimball has been named director of life insurance sales for California Casualty and Life Insurance Company, San Francisco. Previously George was superintendent of agencies for the United States Life Insurance Company. California Casualty is a newly-organized life insurance company becoming operational this past April. ... And John Paidar proudly sent me news about the Bank of Clarendon Hills in Illinois, which has had unusual growth in its five-year history - probably with the Paidar touch as a director. John's own record in the Clarendon Hills community includes extensive school board and service club experience. Pat and he have three children.

It's been an interesting year. Have a pleasant and safe summer.
