The Dartmouth Club of Philadelphia sponsored a terrific program on the Impact of Computers at the GE Space Center, Valley Forge, March 11. Large turnout of alumni and prospective undergraduates (including an 800 math score freshman candidate) heard Tuck professors Williamson, Bower, and Nugent graphically describe computer usage, demonstrated by a teletype connection with the Dartmouth computer. If the session comes your way, do not miss it.
Nearly everybody reads the Philadelphia Bulletin (except those who have already read it in Herb Harrigan's Inquirer) and so it was no surprise to find Chick Webb and lovely wife Betty adorning its society pages while dancing for charity. They looked as though they were enjoying it. Chick is an active Philadelphia industrialist with interests in textiles, chemical specialties, confection manufacturing, air pollution equipment and automobile leasing. Local activities in Huntingdon Valley have included presidency of the school board and trustee of Abington Memorial Hospital. Their children are Lisa, Nina, and Charles III.
Guess where Stu Gibbs lives - Tarzana, California, a fit place for the former Phi Gamma Delta muscleman. Figures, doesn't it? Don't have much else on this former native of Worcester, Mass., and pretty fair freshman hurdler.... Also know why we have not seen Jim Olsen on the Hanover scene recently. He's now living at 1024 Briarcliff Dr., Appleton, Wis. Jim had been in Attleboro, Mass., with St. Regis Paper Co.; this sounds like a transfer to another St. Regis operation. Always thought of Olie as a midwesterner, but records show he was born in Brooklyn, N. Y.... Bill Moseley now resides at 4818 East River Road, Grand Island, N. Y., a Buffalo suburb, where Mose has been industrial relations manager for American Standard since 1963. Previously, Mose had been in personnel work for Ford Motor and Rockwell Manufacturing. Jean and he have three children, Elisabeth, William, and Alan.
Note to Bob Field, intrepid head agent about to embark on another Alumni Fund: When Ernie Ball and Smed Ward finish up on the 25-Year Gift program, sign them up as assistant class agents. They are relentless; they double-teamed me by telephone and correspondence until I sent in my card. That's the attitude we need. The 25 Year Gift is an important part of our Reunion and needs everyone's support. Send in your pledge to Ernie or he'll be beating down your door!
If you've been thinking about that 25th Reunion and wondering how to finance the family excursion, here's a way to handle part of it. Frank Hartmann, chairman of the Reunion Committee, wants to get everybody excited about this big occasion and thinks it needs a good slogan to fire it up. Something like "We'll Be Great in '68" - which isn't good enough. Frank wants every member to send a slogan to him: 17th Floor, 350 Fifth Avenue, New York 10001. Winner will have his reunion tax paid by the class for his family and him. Now that's a carrot worth a little effort. In a tie, earliest postmark wins. June 20-23, 1968 are the dates to remember. How about this entry: "Remember me in '43? Still in that state in '68!" Let's go on those entries.
Got to stop being cute in this column. Mentioned in the Dale Ruedig item this last month he had a partner named Hanlon and that he was not our Paul Hanlon. Copy came out now instead of not, and thousands of avid readers think Mole Hanlon lives in Galesburg. Paul is a Portland, Oregon lawyer, just to keep the record straight.
Don Kingsley is public relations manager and editor of Management Magazine for Corn Products Co., New York City. He was recently elected vice president, American Association of Industrial Editors. The Kingsleys and their five children live in Yorktown, N. Y.
Almost missed mentioning the elevation of George Barlow from judge, Mercer County Court to judge, New Jersey Superior Court. This significant promotion from county to state court is one of the fastest on record and is a tribute to George's ability and performance in the Garden State. His court remains in Trenton. Daughter Jane Ellen graduates from Smith this June, and, proving herself a chip off the old block, recently managed a fourteen-day Nassau spring vacation for something under $250.
Caught Sam Bullock for a few minutes at the Pennsylvania Hospital, Philadelphia, where Sam practises psychiatry. A diplomate in psychiatry since 1954, Sam expects to complete his training this June and wants to come to Hanover this fall reunion.
