Since many of you are not entirely aware of our recently past events, let's quickly recap the end of the '65-'66 season, studded by two stellar projects. One was the annual meeting visit by Professor John Kemeny on May 9 and 10. Stu Summers '59 chaired an extremely jam-packed two days of activities centered around this outstanding Dartmouth figure. Some of these included a meeting at Kingswood School with Math Department heads of other area schools, public and private; a conference at the new Travelers Data Processing Center with some of its human brains; some head busting with some other of Travelers Ph.D.s of the Research Center; a reception-talk for us alumni at our annual meeting at Connecticut General; and an interview on the air with Station WTIC's Dick Burtell of "Americana." The latter was a particularly interesting radio program to which any listener can attest. A particular wah-hoo also for Pete Schwartz'61, and wife, Judy, and to President Ted's charming wife, Polly.
The annual meeting portion of this whirlwind tour of Hartford, incidentally, produced the following slate of officers, now running our Hartford Club: Ted Rice 'SO, president; Bob Foster '48, vice president; Dave Payne '58, vice president; Stu Summers '59, treasurer; and yours truly back as secretary, aided by Brint Schorer '36.
The Hartford Cup Rugby Match again went off with only one hitch - we lost 23-6 to Yale. However, Chairman Rip Maxwell'61, couldn't be too disappointed for we netted another handsome profit that enabled our Scholarship Fund to be swelled by another $1,000, with a few hundred more hoped for by fall. That kind of losing we can stand! Many thanks, Rip.
By now our '66-'67 year is underway after an early September Freshman Luncheon with my good classmate, Dick Jaeger'59, assistant to the Director of Admissions, as principal speaker and Dave Hopkinson '68, as undergraduate speaker. With a lineup like this, we couldn't miss and the many attending freshmen and their fathers seemed duly impressed!
We are now looking forward to the best ever Yale Game Smoker. This year to be held at The Yankee Silversmith in Wallingford, but this time co-sponsored by our redhot brother club, New Haven, now headed by Bob Adnapoz '54. Hopefully, the New Britain Club can be brought into the circle this year to assure an even finer event. We're expecting Coach Blackman and some of his players, so keep an eye out for our mailings with the details.
We are also in the midst of dues collections again and I must add one more hurrah before closing. Last year Ted Rice '50 managed another consecutive record dues collection stunt, the like of which we haven't seen before - 235 paid members, or awfully close to 50% of our members - this is unusual for Dartmouth Alumni Clubs and we can well be proud. Let's make this year better yet—I think you'll find our programming well worth it.
And don't forget the monthly luncheons on second Wednesdays, City Club, 10 Allyn Street at noon.
