To kick off an active 1964 in Hartford none other than Mike McGean '49 braved a very bad ice and snow storm to drive down from Hanover to be our guest speaker for the January luncheon meeting. "You and Your College" was his subject, and if you weren't one of the over 30 who regularly attend these meetings, you missed some interesting information. Honestly, the turnout this season has been most rewarding chances are excellent that you'll find someone you know from back-when if you will take an hour to meet us at Ryan's on second Thursdays.

Football movies followed at U Conn's Auerbach Hall at which time Dartmouth in Hartford honored newly appointed assistant director of Physical Education Wilbur Volz for his many past hours of aiding our enrollment efforts while he was backfield coach. An inscribed pewter bowl was given him as a token of our appreciation. Afterwards, Dartmouth re-won the Ivy-League Football Championship.

At our February luncheon, future tense as of this writing and .past as of this reading, H. Meade Alcorn '33 discussed matters of interest and concern in this presidential election year. As for future dates, be sure April 22 is circled, for that will be President Dickey Day in our city. Further details will be mailed to you, but among events planned will be a Rooftop Dinner atop 100 Constitution Plaza (inside, of course) where our annual meeting will be held coincidentally. As usual, wives are encouraged to come along. In addition, enrollment program or programs will be held during the day starring the one and only Ed Chamberlain '36, Dartmouth's Director of Admissions. It will be an afternoon-evening affair, so most of you can (we hope, urge, and expect) find some convenient time during Mr. Dickey's visit to attend.

Entertainment-wise, or should I say finance-wise, the Club has, is, or will sponsor Cinerama's island spectacular— 'South Seas," currently playing in Hartford. This event, while requiring far less legwork on the part of our program committee, will be one of the big money makers of the year hopefully netting us more than the combined proceeds of past glee club concerts and rugby matches. The reason this type of program was chosen rather than a completely Dartmouth tinted one was the larger return involved, and Culver Modiesette '50, who is our head scholarship man, is faced with the fact that our executive committee has decided to begin the scholarship awarding next fall with an available $1,000 being given to a deserving local boy. Although our goal of $25,000 has not been reached, some $8,000 has been raised, and this coupled with President Dick Page's '54 "Committee of Fifty" brainchild (whereby 50 hand- picked, generous mentors each pledge $10 a year until the fund goal is reached) should give us just what we need —$1,000. For those of you who can multiply quickly, $500 in "pledges" will be magically doubled in most cases since crafty Mr. Page has generously apportioned matching gifts company men throughout the "Committee."

So you see, Hartford is by no means standing still in its efforts to interest both alumni and students in our current events, Tt is hoped you will be caught up in our activity and will participate - the number of those doing so is increasing, so stop by and meet an old friend.
