The turn-out for our executive committee meeting in Hanover before the Princeton game was disappointing to say the least. Perhaps the reason for it was simply a postreunion letdown ... perhaps the fact that tickets for the game were virtually nonexistent. The most important item on our agenda was to have been a discussion and, hopefully, some further action on the Urban Crisis Program to which so many of you responded so enthusiastically in June. It is with great disappointment that I must report that no programs for further action have yet been presented to the executive committee. I, therefore, offer an open invitation to any of you to write me directly or to contact any members of the committee living near you so that we can determine whether or not interest continues and which of you would be willing to work to pursue development of the idea.
The Princeton game, which followed the meeting, was far from disappointing. So too was my first meeting with our newest foreign student, Kesang Tashi. Kesang and his family were forced to leave their native Tibet when it was taken over by the Chinese. Kesang's Tibetan home town is at an elevation of 12,000 feet. Hanover, though elevated after whipping Princeton, doesn't reach quite that high. Nevertheless, the surrounding countryside did remind Kesang of home and he was right in his element during the pre-school, freshman outing with President Dickey. Kesang speaks "five or six" languages. Professors for an advanced Chinese course he is taking were so impressed with his ability that they asked him to evaluate the course books to make sure they were adequate and appropriate for his needs. Kesang worked out with the freshman soccer team this fall. However, he said to me, "I get the feeling that to be considered a sportsman in America one must play football. I think I'd like to try it next year." Watch out, Ab, if Bob Blackman hears about this, we might have another Gogolak in the making! Kesang's favorite Tibetan food is yak meat. We had little trouble finding grape leaves and other Turkish delicacies for Mehmet...this seems to be. a little tougher wish to satisfy. Any suggestions?
I don't know how old this piece of news is, but a mutual Navy friend reported that John Miles had made a successful ejection from his A-4 after it exploded during midair refueling somewhere in the Pacific. John was reportedly attached to the "Oriskany."
