Important news for this column is that Dave Stackpole has accepted appointment as Class Secretary. Dave is a lawyer in Stowe, Vt. He is also very active in local politics. For this reason he will not be able to take over his new class position until after elections in November. However, as I can now really appreciate, it is up to all of you, out there, to keep news coming in. So, start right now by dropping Dave a line telling him what you've been up to this fall and what your winter plans are. His address is Box 111, Hyde Park, Vt.

Jim Hill was in New York for several days in September. He reports that the Gammills have a new son, Christopher Morgan. Congratulations! Hilly also re- ported that people have seen less of TomKnott recently.... Tom's lost over 40 pounds. Again, congratulations!

Fred Baker is now flying transocean routes of Pan American World Airways as a co-pilot. Fred is based at Kennedy International Airport in New York. He served in the Air Force and is now a member of the Air Force Reserve with the rank of Captain. Before joining Pan Am, Fred sold and managed real estate. He and his wife Jerrie have resided in Ambler, Pa., and have two children: Jeri Ann, 8, and Andrew, 5.

Doug Keare submitted his thesis and took his orals on September 30. He is now entitled to be called "Doctor." However, he says that this will be unnecessary for anyone except Leo McKenna and Tom Rosenwald. Doug and Ginger (my sister) left for at least two years in Malaysia on October 4. Doug will be working for Harvard and the Ford Foundation in advising the Malaysian government on economic policy. As far away as Malaysia is, the Keares were expecting a house guest within two or three days of their arrival in the Far East. Leo will be passing through their new hometown, Kuala Lumpur, on his way back to the U.S. after several weeks' work for Peter and W. R. Grace in Australia, At Reunion, in June, Bill Miles said there was a possibility that he too would be in that part of the world in the near future. Bill works in the International Department of the First National Bank of Boston.

In Doug's absence, George Yeager has agreed to take over the chairmanship of the Foreign Student Scholarship program. TomRosenwald will assist him by conducting the drive for scholarship funds. By the time you read this article, you will probably have received the first fund letter, which Doug wrote just before departing. With two students in school now, Mehmet Arda and Kesang Tashi, we can all take pride in the success of this idea. More important, send your contributions to Tom today before you forget, to insure continued success for this truly unique scholarship program. Tom's address is: 34 Marcourt Drive, Chappaqua, N. Y.

Tony and Ann Newey have volunteered to arrange for a Christmas vacation for Mehmet and Kesang in Chicago. Mehmet has expressed an interest in working in the San Francisco area next summer. Anyone with any suggestions should get in touch with Bud Schattman (533 Clubhouse Road, Woodmere, N. Y.). Bud will be working with George Yeager in finding summer employment for both of the boys.

Yesterday was a miserable day here in the East. It rained hard all day, the temperature was uncommonly cold (42°) for this time of the year, and the Green lost by a point to Holy Cross! Whether or not they bounced back to take Princeton and Harvard will be history by the time this column is in print. Whatever, I'm sure there'll be lots of fireworks and I hope there are big turnouts of '56ers to cheer the Green right on through to Pennsylvania.
