Ralph Barton writes to lay down the ultimate challenge: "Since graduation from Tuck School in 1962, I have never had any newsworthy information for the ALUMNI MAGAZINE. . . I haven't moved, changed jobs, or wives. . . . But now something has happened that just may be a first for our class. In September, Laura and I will have three children enrolled at Dartmouth Ralph 'B4, Beth '86, and Jeffrey '87. And, simultaneously, we may be moving after all to the poorhouse."

There's the challenge: Can anybody top three in Dartmouth at one time? Since Ralph's string begins in September, we'll give our contest a 20-year life span, until September 2083. That will let those of you who are still starting a family get in on the action. Our intelligence system really will have broken down if I somehow missed someone else having three in Dartmouth at once. By the way, how's about a note if you have twins or triplets and can do this a lot easier. You don't even have to say that they will apply.

I talked with Peter Jessup by telephone while briefly in Chicago. He reports he's still working for the same company after 19 years Great Plains Bag Corporation." He's regional sales manager, covering eight states.

In March, he retired from the U.S. Navy Reserve after 20 years. He retired as a lieutenant commander, and if he lives until 60, he says he'll pick up a nice retirement check.

When we talked, the Jessups had just re" turned from a trip to Acapulco, Mexico. They have three daughters: Rebecca, seven; Sarah. 11; and Joanne, 15. He said they also en) Hilton Head, S.C.

By the way, the Jessups are working on their longest stay in one place, with their residency in Palatine, after several earlier stops in places like Texas and lowa. They've been in Palatini for nine years.

Second contest of the month: Who can that? How many of you have been in the same place since graduation from Dartmouth or at least in the same town? I went from Dartmouth to graduate school, but have been in Charlotte since getting my master's degree at Columbia, for 21 years now. There was a slight break for active duty for training in the Army. But I still maintained my Charlotte residence, so I suppose that could count. But surely someone now has 22 full years somewhere, and without any break whatever.

News is kind of skimpy this month, as you can see. Please keep me posted. Meantime, I'll tell you that as of this writing, we still have no final word on the fate of this magazine. A report from the Alumni Council executive committee, incorporating the report of the ad hoc committee and including some comments from the president, was to go to the board of trustees in late April. The outcome is best described as uncertain.
