The sudden and unexpected death by heart attack of Harry A. Hall Jr. on December 15 was a shock to his many friends, near and far. Further details appear in the "In Memoriam" section of this or a future issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE.

Thomas C. Colt Jr., director of the Dayton Art Institute, was recently appointed a member of the 15-member Ohio Arts Council created this past year by the Ohio Legislature. The newly created Arts Council will work to bring ballets, symphony orchestras, seminars, and other similar functions and services to communities which do not regularly have such facilities. The program will assist smaller Ohio communities in increased knowledge and enjoyment of the Arts, and will enhance the work of existing organizations in the larger cities.

Ever since graduation Henry "Hank"Lamb has been keenly interested in safety engineering. For more than 22 years he was safety engineer for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, and Scott Paper Company. Since 1948 "Hank" has been a staff member of the American Standards Association, Inc. His outstanding work in the field of safety engineering has been recognized by his recent appointment by Secretary of Labor W. Willard Wirtz to the 12-member Ad Hoc Safety Program Advisory Committee that will review Department of Labor safety programs and make recommendations for their improvement. "Hank" is in charge of ASA's safety and nuclear standardization programs. He was recently re-elected vice-president of the Eastern Region, American Society of Safety Engineers.

During the recent holidays several friends of Don Norstrand noticed that Mrs. Libby Briggs of Newtonville was wearing a Thomas Long Company engagement ring. Don smiled knowingly when pressed for details, and finally said that a summer wedding is planned. Many of us had the pleasure of meeting Libby early in December at the cocktail and dinner party, held in Concord, honoring Doug Everett and his new bride Vida.

Andrew "Jim" Oberlander, medical director of the Prudential Insurance Company, accompanied by his wife Madeline, was in California late in the fall. They report a most enjoyable visit with the Les McFaddens in Santa Barbara, and there spent some time with their son Jim '53 who is in the real estate business in the Santa Barbara area. Their son Dave '55 lives in Northbrook, Ill., where he and a Dartmouth associate are partners serving as manufacturers' representative. Jim and Madeline are looking forward to our Fortieth in June!

For more than 32 years with New England Telephone and Telegraph Company Elliott R. "Jack" Jackson is now Commercial Supervisor on the General Staff in the Boston headquarters office. Jack and Virginia are counting on being in Hanover for the 40th reunion.

A November news item, dateline Montclair, N. J., reports that Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Opdyke have announced the engagement of their oldest daughter Lynn to Gerald P. Nagy, a New York accountant. "Oppie" is on" the OB staff of two of the Montclair hospitals.

GRANDCHILDREN DERBY

Perhaps my records are not 100% up-to-date, but it looks to me as though there is some hot competition for "top man" in the grandpa championship! The score now seems to be: - Hal Marshall 12; Joe Kinney 12; Hap Johnston 11, and Malcolm Jones 10. Let me hear from you pronto if I have overlooked any of you who can lay claim to 10 or more grandchildren. Might be a prize of some sort, at the 40th Reunion, for the high-scoring grandpa as of June first!

Malcolm L. Jones, after more than 37 years with Richards-Wilcox Mfg. Company, Aurora, retired 2 years ago. But now he reports that "retirement is merely a change in direction." He is now serving on the Board of Directors of the Home Building and Loan Association, 2 local banks, Y.M.C.A., and Aurora Foundation. "Plenty busy" says Jerry. And his wife Lydia is president of the Aurora Y.W.C.A. Says his new pool room on second floor of garage is open to all '26ers for a very modest fee!

Membership in our "60 Club" is now nearly 100%. During the last three months of 1965 13 new members were admitted; in October - Hal Gibson, Geo. Yaffe, Howard Post, Gordon Bell, Os Fitts, Fred Wenck, Bob Weil, and John Hammond; in November - Phil Woodward and Clarence Brazil; and in December Walt Pillsbury, Bob McIndoe, and Tony Gleason. During the first 5 months of 1966 we shall welcome to membership in the "60 Club" these younger classmates who now join the majority of us already at the three score mark. During January, Paul Leussler and Ken Godfrey; in February — Henry Lamb, Henry Greeley, Art Nathanson, Al Norris, and Bob Riotte. In March - none; and in April, Bob Cort will be the sole inductee; and in May, Dick Lattimore takes all the honors.

Ed Hanlon reports that checks for class dues have "been coming in very rapidly" this fall. Have you mailed yours? Address, c/o Calvin Bullock, Ltd., 1 Wall Street, New York 5.

If you are interested in spending a few days at the Lake Morey Inn immediately prior to our June 13-15 reunion, won't you please let me (Ken Weeks) know not later than March 15? Tentative reservations have been made by more than a half dozen, but definite accommodations must be arranged for soon. Write me, if interested, and I'll give you further details and approximate cost.
