You'll have to take potluck with this issue, gents, for trying to compose a column with the wails of a newborn in the background leaves me anything but composed. But it's a real healthy wail from Katherine Jean, our fifth child and fourth daughter, who made her appearance on December 3, 1965. The only potential Dartmouth applicant in our line returned from hibernation a few days later - after his very capable fourth grade teacher, a Hanover-raised gal named Sylvia Dickey, used some good psychology and convinced him it was better to be the uncontested heir than to have a more balanced distribution of sexes.

Meanwhile, down in New Canaan, Conn., Fran and Paul Canada now are in balance with two offspring of each sex since the arrival of Christopher Mark on August 1. Paul, incidentally, was the lucky so-and-so who latched onto some 'o6er's tickets for the Princeton game and saw that saga unfold from the 50-yard line.

There are several other recent births lm still awaiting official word of, but along a somewhat different train of thought I'm delighted to pass on the word from my exroommate Dan Schausten — Now Hear This! — of his December 29th marriage to Molly Hering Dirker, in Portland, Ore. Nuptials were performed with the assistance of Molly's 11- and 13-year-old daughters, and with the approval of Dan's new brothers-in-law including Blake Hering '53 and Clayton Hering '63. The honeymoon trip included a visit with Nan and Dick Ribble in Hollywood. Upon returning to Portland, the Schausten shingle was attached to 4306 S.W. Admiral Court.

Speaking of Admiral, Tom Warner is headed in that direction, having taken over as commodore of the Minnetonka Yacht Club in Minnesota. Do you race ice boats too, Tom? If you lived here in the northeast you would still be waiting to partake of that sport, for it has been a balmy winter to date. Hopefully John Caldwell found some decent skiing in the Vermont mountains early in the season, though, for his ability on the boards is well known, and we're very pleased to report that John has been appointed national cross-country ski coach of the U.S. team for the 1966 World Championships.

Also from New England's north country comes the word that Dr. Warren Franz of Newport, N. H., has been elected an incorporator of that city's Sugar River Savings Bank. Warren is a pathologist of Newport, Claremont, New London, and Lebanon hospitals, and is state delegate to the National Pathologist Association.

Here in the Hub, Bill Doe has joined the ranks of the Hartford Life Insurance Company, where yours truly also hangs his hat. Bill is responsible for the administrative and underwriting development of the group pension business; part of his time is spent at the Hartford Insurance Group's home office in Connecticut (where we'll be permanently located after the completion of a new high-rise office structure) so it hasn't been necessary for him to relocate from his home at 15 Woodcliff Drive, Granby, Conn.

Also on the local insurance scene, ArthurWaterson Jr. has been appointed assistant superintendent of the Underwriting Analysis Department of The Employers' Group of Insurance Companies. Art is a resident of Dedham, Mass.
