The Class was very well represented on October 28 in Harvard Stadium. From our strategic Section 1 position overlooking the east end zone we had an excellent view of most of the scoring, including the Crimson's 21 point resurgence in the fourth quarter but excluding the super-climactic two-phase field goal effort in the waning moments whereby the Big Green emerged on top, 23-21. I can't comment on the representation or the seating arrangements on the following Saturday, for various circumstances precluded our heading for New Haven; however, there was maximum strain on the cardiac system just listening to the holocaust via radio as the fired-up Elis evidenced an awesome abundance of offensive and defensive power which added many points to their already formidable statistical credentials.
Reverting to Boston, among those present on the 28th were 12 members of your Class Executive Committee who had come to town for its annual meeting on the previous evening. Chairman John Dwyer presided; a resume of what transpired may interest you. Treasurer Rick Miller reported that we are in good financial condition, with a $6,844.37 bank balance; this is subject to the funding of our $5,000 pledge to the College's Tree Planting Program which was authorized last year and is being effected over a 3-year period. 461 dues-payers paid the freight this year, including the $2,482.70 outlay for the ALUMNI MAGAZINE which continues to be sent to all members; a higher participation is hoped for next year in order to provide a more equitable situation.
Newc Eldredge represents the Class on the Tree Planting Program; this involves an annual review of the master plan with college officials in order to select about a dozen sites where trees bearing a 1950 plaque will be placed. The trees, which are of a variety of disease resistant stock, measure up to 30 feet in height; two of those planted in 1967 are on the Sanborn House lawn.
Charlie Gardner reported on the College's Memorial Book Program, which our class first joined in 1953. Eleven men have been memorialized to date; a revolving account was authorized for the continuance of the program.
The results of the 1967 Alumni Fund drive were summarized by Head Agent Sandy McCulloch. Although we slipped to third place in our Green Derby group, a new dollar high of $29,553 was attained and the per capita gift increased to $60.68 through the efforts of 487 participants and the fine work of many assistant class agents. Sandy went on to point out that the recently announced $51 million Third Century Fund campaign is a program to acquire capital funds; it will not diminish the continuing importance of the Alumni Fund drive, which helps provide the College with operating funds.
1970 was deemed close enough to warrant the appointment of a committee to nominate a Reunion Chairman. John Dwyer, JoelLeavitt, Rick Miller, and Sandy McCulloch were appointed.
Also present and participating at the meeting were Phil See, Jim Moore, Bob Kilmarx, Jerry Sarno, Dick Echikson, and yours truly. Commendations were awarded to Sandy McCulloch and Joe Medlicott for their successful and untiring efforts as Head Agent and Newsletter Editor, respectively. We were indebted to Bruce Parker for enabling us to use the Nordblom Company's conference room for the meeting.
