Bob McKennan continued his study of the culture of the Northern Athapaskan Indians in Central Alaska last summer under a research contract from the National Museum of Canada. His work involved excavation of sites he had previously discovered in the Healy Lake area and reconnaissance into the Yukon-Tanana uplands.
A note from Deak Blodgett, whose condition is gradually improving, was accompanied by a clipping from the Newark Evening News announcing the election of FrancisVan Orman to the office of senior vice president of Firemen's Fund Insurance Company of San Francisco. Frank, whose office is in Eastern regional headquarters in Newark, will continue to represent the company in industry relations.
A profile item in a recent issue of a Rockford, Ill., newspaper described Allen Sparks as president of Sparks, Crawford and Sparks, Inc., insurance agency, and trustee and former president of Rockford Memorial Hospital and past chairman of the American Red Cross in Rockford. Allen also is former president of the Rockford Country Club and the University Club and holds membership in the Midday Club.
Marty and Drls Huberth have reason to be proud of their son, Jonathan, who' has been awarded a fellowship for graduate study in dramatic arts by the trustees of Amherst College where he graduated cum laude in 1966. He will pursue his studies at the Yale School of Drama.
Bill Barker has been appointed to serve on Planning Board, established by vote of the Piermont, N. H., town meeting members for he purpose of studying and making recommendations for the promotion and maintenance of the town's best development. Bill is retired and has ample time to devote to such civic projects.
The Holy Cross game, which resulted in a gratifying 24 to 8 victory, was the focal point of an informal reunion of 54 classmates and wives at Hanover the weekend of October 7. Under the impetus of our class president's initiative the following group gathered at the Norwich Inn for cocktails and dinner in the Terrace Room: the Ed Obers, Jack Per-Lees, Bob Rhoadeses, George Zahms, Hal Elders, George Newmans, Line Davises, Woody Wilsons, Frank Kennedys, Don Hunts, Herb Talbots, Lang Springs, Francis Browns, Ed Roesslers, Marty Huberths, Ed Dodez', Ford Wheldens, Pete Haffenreffers, Eddie Blakes, Bud Petrequin, and yours truly.
On Saturday after the game we reconvened at the Norwich Inn for cocktails and dinner privately in the Ranger Room where the foregoing number was increased by the addition of the Ed Burnses, Larry Leavittsr,Bill Jenkinses, Doug Archibalds, Bob McKennans, John Garrods, and Ken Nugents. The dinner was followed by informal dancing and entertainment with music in the old style offered by George Zahm and his old faithful saxophone,' accompanied by Ed Pease at the organ. Significantly, the party broke up at 10:15 p.m. a far cry from the midnight termination of former years!
On Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. the annual meeting of the board of governors was held in the Paul Room of the Baker Library. The action taken at this meeting, which was attended by 25 classmates, will be reported in detail in The Roundup. The next meeting of the board will be held October 12, 1968, in conjunction with the Princeton game. It is urged that anyone planning to be in Hanover on that occasion make reservations now for sleeping accommodations.
