Again this year, I am depending largely on the use of a return post-card for the collection of information for publication in this column. True, some material comes from Hanover as a result of clipping services. In addition, my attempts to produce action statements, and reaction, has sporadically brought forth column material. Unfortunately, I have not the time nor the secretarial back-up needed to carry on extensive personal correspondence. Thus - again - what you write to me becomes the column.
In September, I mailed out cards to 79 men with the following message: "Our de- layed '3sth' reunion takes place on Mon.- Wed., lune 17-19, 1968, when we reune with '33 and 34. I hope you're planning to be there, to renew old friendships and enjoy the Hanover activities. This is a particularly important year to have everyone update his news for the ALUMNI MAGAZINE class notes. Send me a note on the attached card. . . . What are you and yours doing these days? Any cogent comments on current trends? Are you planning to come to the reunion? . . . May I from you soon?" But don't wait for your card it may be four or five months before you get it.
From nearby Arlington, Va., comes the first return from Joe FaneJli: "Mary and I certainly plan to attend the 35th in 1968. We have no news except that our younger daughter, Edna Diane, will be married in November to Scott Daugherty."
Edward "Jack" Hall sent in: "No particular news of outstanding interest from this grandfather (two granddaughters). Am still with Kodak. Have done a substantial amount of travel, mostly continental Europe, and have my eyes on retirement in 1970, the Lord and the national economy permitting. We will put reunion on the agenda for '6B it could be fun to see how many can be recognized through the bi-focals!"
Reunion plans continue with a note from John "Chip" Cronin: "Hope to make the 35th in company with my wife and son John whom we trust will be accepted for the class of 1972. Still in securities business managing office for Ward Walker & Com- pany in Jackson Heights. Wife and I also run local newspaper started as hobby - now an interesting side vocation. Have three grandchildren too lively for these tired blood more than middle-aged."
Don Allen types well on a card: "The big news this summer has been the marriage of our older daughter, Pat, to Daniel Kisha on August 19. Dan is studying for his doctorate at Brooklyn Poly. Younger daughter Barbara is a sophomore at Suny Plattsburgh. Kay, Barbara, and I spent the summer at LSU in Baton Rouge where I had a postdoctoral fellowship in neutron activation analysis. The climate was less pleasant than that of the previous summer in Palo Alto, Calif. Expect to have the second edition of Allen-Ordway, 'Physical Science' on the market by the end of the year. Planning to come to our 35th."
Nostalgic note on how rough it used to be: Who remembers mixing a $10 gallon of alcohol into quarts and quarts of gin? This odd flash-back is not unrelated to the fact that I received a good note from Herb"Bus" Sails: "Planning to attend reunion next June, barring anything unforeseen. Going to U. of Massachusetts game this weekend, also October 8 Holy Cross game. Surprised to receive seats on 40-yard line must be we've been out long enough to receive the red carpet treatment. Spent a couple of weeks in Maritime Provinces this past summer. We moved our office to much larger quarters have five times as much floor space."
Par avion from Paris, our president BoWentworth writes: "Received your card just before I left and am glad you are reminding the class about reunion. Am going to Brussels, Amsterdam, Barcelona, and London. Expect to attend Penn-Dart game with Jini Miller and Art Allen and brides. Also look forward to reunion in June."
Positive note received from Doc Joe Roberts: "Mona and I will definitely be present at our 35th (36th?) reunion. In fact, for JayWhitehair's benefit, I'm practicing playing 'Up the Lazy River' on the local Steinway, and by June might even be able to learn the left hand. Our daughter (Mrs. Robert Marciniak) presented us with our first grandchild last January. The poor kid's father is a Cornellian, but we'll straighten that out in a few years. Our son Bill (Dartmouth '66) is at U. of Buffalo working on his Master's in Immunology." Glad to hear of your reunion plans, Joe I hope many of your fellow medics will also come.
From Philadelphia comes a card replete with action from Al Gerould: "Celebrated the 21st birthday of my oldest daughter. Sue, the other day. Vacation last summer with the Sierra Club up at 10,000 ft. in the Evolution Country west of Bishop, Calif. Transferred by allegiance from the D.O.C. to the Sierra Club about 15 years with the Free Library of Philadelphia and likely to stay. See you all this spring " Thanks, gentlemen, for writing.
