Despite the heavier-than-usual snow, we enjoyed having the family together over the holidays - as I hope you did. In the large sense, the upcoming year is bound to be a good one because there are many unknowns and many things that should be decided.

Stu Thatford reports from Honolulu: "Still employed by U.S. Government, but now residing at 1427 Alexander, near Punahou School of Hawaii. Attempting to enjoy all the benefits of the Islands such as swimming, golf, etc. ... but finding it difficult with pressure of investigative work now pending.

"Although here for six months, have not been able to explore the Leeward side of the island of Oahu, but have intentions of doing this at first opportunity." Chacun a son gout, but I'll swap that leeward side for any number of unknown points I have around Washington.

Charles Maxwell announces that his daughter, Elizabeth Lyon, married William Martens Lee on December 17 in New York. If I'm told any more about Bill and Liz, and what they're doing, I'll let you know.

Our peripatetic president, Bo Wentworth, reports from Switzerland "after five rainy days in Brussels where our new common market company is taking shape somewhat faster than the common market...." A few facts with implications you'll have to work out yourself.

We hope Carl Parsons changes his mind about available time for reunion: "Still a superintendent with the Lane Construction Corporation of Meridan, - Conn. - family grown up and gone on their own. My work keeps us traveling a lot - usually vacation in Florida in winter. Golf is my main diversion or hobby. No plans on 1968 reunion mainly because June is a busy month in the construction business."

Charley Boak says a lot on a post card: "I'm still editing college texts for Scribners and living in Scarsdale. Son Steve is in high school there. Travel little but swear a lot — about the world. Think of G. B.S., 'of course there is life on other planets, and the earth is their insane asylum.' Very fond of Macbird. Like John Keller and others, spend more and more time on eschatology. Constantly amazed at the ignorance I've accumulated in eighty years."

Harold B. "Speck" Macy gives us an odd challenge: "I've always replied to the status inquiry cards in the past and have yet to see where it ever swelled the column. So be it. I doubt that I'll be reuning." Surely you can make it from Washington, N. H.

From Don Allen, a good letter: Received your postcard request for news several days ago. I do think it's about time some of us got on the ball and wrote. This finds me still a professor of Chemistry at State University of New York in Albany and enjoying life a good deal more because of freedom from certain earlier administrative responsibility. In September the Department of Chemistry moved into a new building, one unit of Edward D. Stone's new $100 million masterpiece which is under construction.... The project will not be completed for several years.

Older daughter Pat is secretary to the Foreign Student Adviser at MIT. Barbara is a freshman at State University College, Plattsburgh, N. Y. Kay still lectures on our travels in Southeast Asia - Hong Kong last month and one on Singapore coming up.

All through the years since Dartmouth Glee Club days I have been singing with choirs or choral groups. During the past six years have sung with the Mendelssohn Club of Albany.

This year two of my former colleagues from Bandung, Indonesia are studying here for advanced degrees. I think we have all been gratified with the turn of events in Indonesia during the past year. Our experience indicated that the Indonesians were basically a very kindly and gracious people who admired us, and who in turn wanted to be liked. I hope we will have the wisdom to respond appropriately to their desperate economic needs, without at the same time expecting that they will necessarily carry on in characteristic Western fashion.

I suggest that you re-read Don's last sentence — it could well serve as the prime writ for our foreign aid program.

Ed Marks sends us an ad from The Times, stating that "the Zoological Society of London seeks a curator of mammals." While he directs it primarily to Dick Manville, I thought you might be interested. Ed invites classmates to reach him at 21 Markham Square in the American Embassy in London.

Be fun, have good. Send me your news.
