The first Peace Corps contingent to train on campus during the regular academic year has completed its sixteen-week schedule and is off to two years' work in the country of Togo in French-speaking West Africa.

The 47 young men and women who began their studies on campus on November 10 were learning skills so that they could work in rural community development, agricultural extension, public health, heavy equipment maintenance and operation, well-digging, and Volunteer secretary posts. Their studies included six hours daily in intensive French and Togolese language instruction, classes in Togolese culture, political structures, and economic systems, and practical training in community development.

The trainees lived at Occom Inn and the Green Lantern Inn and had their classes in College buildings. Former Geography Instructor John W. Sommer Jr. '60 has been the Togo Program Director for the Peace Corps.
