The College's largest dormitory, Topliff Hall, will be divided into two dormitories this summer, a return to its original form, and both new units will be extensively renovated and beautified.

The recommendation for the split came from the Committee on Student Residence, headed by the new Dean of the Tucker Foundation, Charles F. Dey '52. "Any community with 210 to 225 men is too large," Dean Dey remarked, "and the living atmosphere becomes impersonal."

Huge Topliff Hall, which has had disciplinary problems in recent months, will be repainted, relighted, and carpeted as well as split. Originally built as two dormitories with brick partitions separating one half of the building from the other, the dormitory lost its partitions during World War II when it was used by the Navy.
