Dartmouth won 18 baseball games last year and lost 10. Nine lettermen are back again under Captain Bruce Smith '67 from Louisville, Ky., for a season that opened March 18 against East Carolina and was to include nine other road games before the official opening of the Ivy League season April 14 in New York against Columbia.

Coach Tony Lupien was still worried about his pitching assignments as the Southern swing began. He was depending chiefly on two veterans from last year: Jim Shaw '67, left-hander from Penacook, N. H., and Lou Highmark '68, Indianapolis, Ind. Shaw was 4-2 last year, and Highmark was 4-0.

Elsewhere on the team the positions appeared to be reasonably well set. Bob Thomas '6B of Mifflinburg, Pa., was at first; Gene Ryzewicz '6B, Springfield, Mass., at second; Mickey Beard '67, Newton, Mass., at shortstop, and Paul Mikus '67, North Bedford, Mass., at third.

The outfield looked like Smith in right, John Blair '68, Rialto, Calif., in left, and Terry Light '69, Palmyra, Pa., in center. Catching duties were being shared by John Hanshus '69 of Eau Claire, Wis., and Bob Bednarz '69 of Calumet City, Cal.

In the Alumni-Varsity hockey game, March 3, Bill Riley '46 (3) shows his old skillat splitting the defense.
