Still reporting from Delray Beach where, after months of beautiful weather, we have had a couple of days of rain, which, the natives and keepers of the golf courses say, we need. All in all, to date (late March) it has been a wonderful winter in Florida, the best ever. A visit from Ort (vice president emeritus of the College and still going stronger than ever) Hicks '21 and Lois was a highlight of early March. The Palm Beach Dartmouth Club had a lunch in his honor and Ort was in fine vocal form in explaining to the group his job, among other things, as public relations officer of the College. 1919 was represented at the gathering by KingCole, Pete Pitman, Charlie Warner, and your Secretary. The film "Highlights of the 1966 Football Season" was shown, and even the run by Bobby Leo in the Harvard game was included.
The 1918 Pow-Wow at the Sheraton in Fort Lauderdale was its usual success and from 1919 were Guy and Muriel Cogswell,Moe and Birdie Freedberg, up from Miami, and the Secretary who had a fine time chatting with Gene Markey, Ed Healey, Howie Park, Tom Shirley, and other eminent members of 1918. The aforementioned Ed Healey was in Florida to get out of the Indiana snows and paid us a call one morning. Ed is certainly one great guy and most entertaining.
A card from Eddie Fiske indicates that he and Jessie got as far south as Ormond Beach via Sea Island, Ga. The great curler will doubtless be on his way back to Kennebunkport, Me., soon, where our annual golf outing is due to take place in June. Those who were there two years ago remember what a fine time we had and the Fiskes' hospitality. Via Win Batchelder comes the good news that a couple of Greif Raible's horses were winners on the Florida racing circuit this past winter, and that the Alumni Fund will benefit accordingly. This is good because Fred Daley will need the best that all of us can do to make the grade this year for 1919.
A note from Jane Cody (widow of Lou) Blyth from California echoes the sentiments of many of the widows of the class when she notes, "Loved reading the Newsletter and the MAGAZINE. I may move back East then would see you all."
Bill Alderman reports to Ray Adams, "Still working 5½ days a week - good for us oldsters to work, I'm now convinced. Still hope to make our 50th." Note to Bill: you can get some argument on the fact that loafing isn't bad. Budd Welsh also writes to Ray, "Sorry to have missed the get-together last fall but one just can't travel all the time and I still have a few civic responsibilities. Glad to see that the 50th reunion fund is growing - a reserve always comes in handy." Bill Smith comes up with a new one, "Still wonderfully busy - with no legal training but aiming to avoid retirement's effects (although retired 5 years ago) - have switched from engineering consulting to running a law office." Stu and Dot Russell are finally getting out of the Hanover snows and cold weather and are on their way to sunny Florida where Stu will practice his good golf game in preparation to taking on Cotfy Lannon when the snow melts off the Woodstock, Vt., golf course. Haven't heard that Jim Davis, who with Mary's assistance, designed the new birthday card, made a holein-one this winter - how come, Jim? Your goofing, golfing Secretary has made a few in two but no ones yet.
Hanover news is that Cotty and Kitty Larmou are back home from their interesting trip which took them all the way to Australia. We hope to have a more detailed account in a later issue.
