Just when it appeared that the old well was running dry, new springs of information came bubbling through. So, as we close out another college year, our cup runneth over with news about '34s:

HONORS - Don Alien, elected president of Yankee Atomic Electric Co., Boston - a joint venture of nine New England electric utilities in an atomic power plant in Massachusetts. Don had been with the New England Electric System, in recent years as assistant general counsel.... Gordon Kibbe, promoted from trust officer to senior trust officer of Safe Deposit Bank and Trust Co., Springfield, Mass. Kib has been with the bank since 1934, with time out for World War II service.... Morris Levine, recipient of B'nai B'rith annual citizenship award at Linden, N. J., for "outstanding and dedicated service" to his community in civic and religious affairs over the years. Grandpa Murray, who got his M.A. at New York U., taught economics, history and math in Linden for 11 years before switching to real estate and insurance in 1946.... Bob Rodman, named special hearing officer for the Justice Department to conduct hearings involving conscientious objector claimants. Bob, who got his law degree at Harvard and served in the Coast Guard during WW II, is on the Council of Boston Bar Association and a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association....

Nick Xanthaky, to whom we are indebted for the first news of Don Allen's good fortune, reports he is back in the Economics Department at Salem (Mass.) State College after a year's leave. He did graduate work at Boston U., visited Mexico with Alice (they celebrated their 32nd wedding anniversary recently), kept an eye on his Long Island helicopter interests and is minding the store at his Salem amusement park. In his spare time, he plays tennis three or four times a week.... Sy Dunn is closing out his career this summer as Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Alfred University after four years. Sy hasn't disclosed his future plans. Before Alfred, he had 14 years at Hobart as professor of history and political science and dean, and seven years at Gettysburg College as Dean and director of development. Dr. Dunn got his Ph.D. at Cornell.

Gratefully, we add the name of TomBeers to the roster of those who've helped locate next of kin of deceased classmates. Tom, National Geographic Society v.p., is back from a South American tour which included visits with U.S. ambassadors and military groups in Peru, Argentina and Brazil....

Bob Douglass, one of our favorite freshman year Toplilf neighbors (who writes us every 33 years), reports from Chatham, N. J., that he and Kay have been made grandparents by daughter Mary (U. of Richmond's Westhampton College '62) and son-in-law Bill Sommers. Son Bill, who was graduated this year from St. Lawrence U., where he played freshman hockey and a year of varsity baseball, is now in Marine Corps Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Va. Bill is eyeing a master's degree in philosophy after finishing his three-year Marine hitch. Bob, incidentally, is now sole owner of Ward & Douglass, manufacturer's representatives....

SCOOP - What does that distinguished news magazine tycoon, Bill Schermam, do in his spare time? Well, among other things, he slaps the bass viol and vocalizes with a Dixieland combo called the "Ivy Stumpers." They played the Yale Club of New York in one engagement....

INTELLIGENCE REPORT - Secret operative W advises that Mae and Jim Walter passed through New York en route from Canada to a Caribbean cruise. Jim's eldest daughter, Linda, is a nurse in Toronto; the youngest, Nancy, is getting an M.A. and teaching. Jim reported seeing Frankie Spain in Rochester, N. Y., a while back.... Marge and George Copp, at last reports, were off to Spain. ... Shirley and Ray Hulsart, who untangles labor problems for the N. Y. Times, also planned a big trip. Ray's daughter, Sharon, is working in New York; daughter Barbara is a student at Barnard.... Ray, across-the-street neighbor of Jerry Danzig, reports that Sarah Danzig broke a leg skating at Rockefeller Plaza, but all's well now....

SONS OF '34 - The graduation of StanSmoyers' boy Bill '67 takes from the campus one of Dartmouth's outstanding athletes. Bill was All-Ivy in soccer, got honorable mention on All-Ivy hockey team and closed out his career as a star of the rugby team.... The competitive spirit runs in the family. Stan's daughter Nancy is a Red Cross recreational aide in Vietnam, putting on programs on such subjects as big league baseball, new cars and the latest "Motown Music." Son Dave, Harvard Law '66, has become assistant to the Commissioner of the new United Soccer Association in New York, one of the two new pro soccer leagues.... Wendy Williams' son, Christopher '68, named Photography Editor of The Dartmouth....

The passing of wondrous Willie Leveen recalls his fun-loving antics at the 25th reunion. First day out, he proclaimed to all '34s that "Saturday night we're going to take on '44 in a riot and a rumble." Came Saturday night. Willie marched into the '34 tent and told his breathless classmates: "This is it. This is the night we've been waiting for. But there's been a slight change. Instead of '44, we're taking on '84." Willie left them with a smile. That's the way he lived. That's the way he met death.
