A new record in 25-year class giving - nearly twice as much as the former mark - has been established by the Class of 1942. Presentation of a "check" for $1,280,000 to President Dickey at the 25th reunion banquet in Alumni Hall on June 17 capped the remarkable record of support given to Dartmouth by the class.
The previous high for total support over a 25-year period was the $686,541 established last year by the Class of 1941.
The symbolic check given to President Dickey represented the cumulative contributions of '42 class members, parents, and friends since graduation. This is an average of almost $100 annually for every living member of the class.
A total of $310,000 was raised over the past three years. Leaders of this final phase were Class Giving Chairman Robert J. Strasenburgh II '42 of Pittsford, N.Y., and Head Class Agent Warren G. Kreter '42 of Massapequa, N.Y.
The Dartmouth Alumni Council last month saluted the class, its president, Robert F. Kirk '42 of West Hartford, Conn., and its campaign leaders for their "remarkable achievement."
