The 92nd annual meeting of the Club, now officially known as the Dartmouth Club of Chicago, was held at noon on May 16, at the La Salle Hotel. Retiring President Hugh Brower '50 turned over his gavel to Dave McLaughlin '54, the new president, and his slate of officers: Joe Migely '54, vice president; John Loveland '49, vice president; Dave Burner '53, secretary; and Steve Fast'54, treasurer. In addition, Loye Miller '51, Charlie Davison '50, Bill Kay '52, and Joe Mathewson '55 were elected as directors. John Loveland will serve as chairman of the Interviewing and Enrollment Committee, assisted by Dave Smith '54 and Jim Brannen '60. Norrie Williamson '26, retiring as chairman of this important committee, was given a large hand for three years' hard work. Our featured guest speaker was Eddie Chamberlain '36, who told us about the Class of '72 and recent campus activities.
On August 21, Ralph Johnson '41 hosted the annual picnic at his Barrington residence. Approximately 150 were present, including a dozen members of the Class of '72 and their fathers. After several softball games and dips in the pool, large quantities of steaks were washed down by the beer on tap. Later in the evening, Dave McLaughlin '54 revived the old custom of asking former club presidents to lead the singing of "Men of Dartmouth" around, the bonfire. Among those so honored were Gene Hotchkiss '22, Al Louer '26, Warren Fellingham '26, Red Rowe '50, Fred Lent '43, and Hugh Brower '5O. Herb West '22 was on hand during the evening to keep the faithful in touch with the Hanover memories. Jay Johnston '65 and Jack Senne '53 made the arrangements, and cooking steaks were John Loveland '49, John Remsen '68, John Spooner '69, Bob Payne '70, Rich Hagen '70, and Dave Burner '53.
Charlie Davison '50 is hard at work planning a joint party with the Skidmore Club to be held October 5 at the Mid-America Club. The Bourbon Street Saints will provide the music and raffles are being arranged to part the "Big Green" from some of their "Folding Green" for the two Scholarship funds. The Cleveland Club has had great success with their annual party, so this may become an annual affair.
