The College will receive an endowment fund of over $300,000 from the estate of Joseph L. Hardin Jr. '27, late of Coral Gables, Fla. Designated by the donor as "The Hardin 1927 Baseball Memorial Fund," it is to be used exclusively for Dartmouth's baseball program to help finance equipment and care and maintenance of the baseball facilities, both on an annual and long-term basis.
Mr. Hardin, who died in February 1968, was manager of the Dartmouth baseball team in 1927 under the great coach of that era, Jeff Tesreau. His business career was with Macy's in New York, Kaufmann's in Pittsburgh, and Bamberger's in Newark. After serving in the U. S. Navy in World War II with the rank of lieutenant commander, he returned to Bamberger's and retired to Florida in the early 1950's. In Coral Gables he was active in Dartmouth alumni affairs for many years.
