Reunion report from Garry Garrison:
"The committee meeting in Hanover turned into a real old "Peerade" at the expense of Brown, the likes of which we haven't seen in the last ten years. The following 12rs showed up in Section 5: The Rollie Linscotts, the Ben Hunts, the Arthur Burnhams, the Roy Lewis's, the Queechee Frenches, the Hal Fullers, Dick Remsen, Randy Burns and ourselves. If we missed anybody it must have been their fault. Directly after the game Bertha French guided us to the French Estate up the Queechee Gorge where the Burnhams, Fullers, Garrisons and Randy Burns sat down to a grand steak dinner with all the fixings and liquid refreshment, which affair I understand was sponsored by the Roy Lewis' and the Queechee Frenches to add weight to the committee and well they did. With all this pow-wow and celebration no question was too difficult to settle and our plans for June '58 are just about 99% set so that I will be able to send you our program very shortly. While in Hanover I was in touch with Mike McGean and his secretary, Margaret Austin, but there is not much more for them to do for us at present but assign us a dormitory and meeting room for our class meeting."
Louis Ekstrom writes: "Just back from NewEngland, Nashua, N. H., and my second reunion of a 50-year high school class - '06 lastyear and '07 this year. I took a post-graduatewith '07 so I had a foot in each class. HenceI should be well orientated by 1962 for these50-year affairs. I could have waited until tomorrow and celebrated my birthday anniversary, but what the heck, at 71 it's old hat."
Ned Richmond joined the ranks of the "retired" last June 30. He now keeps busy doing"research."
Sympathy of the entire Class is extended to Harry Barnett on the death of his wife, which was reported by Harry:
"Mrs. Barnett and I had planned to stop at Lake Morey for a day last June to meet some of the classmates without staying over or joining in the festivities. But alas, on the 14th of May she passed away suddenly after a few days of apparently improving health after an embolism three weeks previously. So all plans formulated for the fall, when I was to have completed my work as supervisor of the foreign language reading examinations for graduate students here at Michigan State University, were forestalled and the bottom dropped out of everything. Life has taken a holiday away from home, leaving me alone. I continue my work which seems not to be at an end yet, and will continue until another person is found to take over my duties, which I insist must be before the cold of winter is upon us. That class news letter recently received was so full of news that I sat for a long time pe it. It is always a pleasure to read the Bill.
From Jim Worton:
First off - congratulations to Eddie Luitwider and Lyme Armes for their wonderful work. The Billboard is certainly a newsletter in the truest sense. And also more congratulations to Katy Baker for her writeup on the reunion last june at Lake Morey. Ruth and I enjoyed every minute were there seeing and visiting with all the gang I might add that I know any '12ers who have not attended a reunion do not know what they are missing. Ruth and I expect to go to Florida again this winter. Hope to see some of our classmates again in Hollywood where we expect to be during January and February. Our son Jack was married to Susan Yates of Huntington, W. Va., July 1, 1957. He is now attending the Harvard Business School of Administration, working on his Master's degree. Dick, our youngest boy, has started his sophomore year at the Durfee Technological Institute in Fall River. Barbara, our daughter, continues as Home Economics head at the Somerset High School, while Jimmie, the oldest boy, is employed in Hazardville, Conn. Our only grandson is now 21 months and is just at the age for his grandparents to try to spoil him."
From Jim English:
In June 1957 I retired from my position as professor of Romance languages at Grove City College after 26 years of service. In the latter part of June we moved to Clearwater, Fla., bought a house and are now very happily located at 1464 Overlea Street. Since retirement I have been gardening at home. I hope to do some studying and writing later on. We hope that any of our Dartmouth friends will call and see us when you come to Florida."
Sam Hobbs brings us up to date on himself and family:
"The world in many respects is treating me well. I 'retired' perforce from the job of 33 years duration with Portland Cement Association, but I seem to be as busy as ever. Among other things, I represent an engineering consulting office and do a modest amount of consultation and a bit of writing when I find the time. Marian and I keep in a fair state of health, the son and daughter and six grandchildren are all well also - what more could one ask? Orchids to Lyme Armes! When I saw pages numbered to 12 in the recent Newsletter, I marveled anew at the capacity and productivity of that Premier Newsman. I think he knows that he is appreciated. If I can hold up until 1962, I hope to see many of you tenderfeet again."
