Election Honors for WDCR
FEBRUARY 1969

WDCR in Hanover, the nation's only fully student-operated AM commercial radio station, has been given the United Press International Award for the Best Radio Coverage of Election '68 by a small station.

The award, presented January 24 at a banquet at the Sheraton Boston, was one of twelve citations from United Press for all New England radio and television stations. Accepting the honor for WDCR were News Director Mark Willen '69 from West Hartford, Conn., who produced the election coverage, and General Manager Jeffrey Kelley '69, of Summit, N. J. who served as anchor man.

Informing WDCR of the award, Calvin Thornton, North Eastern Division Manager of UPI, called the Hanover station's election coverage "fantastic." The principal emphasis of the election night reporting was on New Hampshire and Vermont races, although national results were also carried. Analysis of the returns was provided by WDCR's special political re- porter Win Rockwell '70 from Clinton, N. Y., and by Edward W. Gude '59, Instructor in Government.
