Bob Grady was recently appointed vice president of the Knapp Brothers Shoe Corporation of Brockton, Mass. Bob, who has been with Knapp since 1955, was previously associated with Procter and Gamble and the First National Bank of Boston. He held various positions with the company throughout the country before returning to Brockton in 1962 to head up retail stores division. Bob. Jane, and their son Bob now live in South Hingham.

From Bristol, Va., Fred Garfield reports that the countryside is much like New Hampshire with lakes, mountains, golf and skiing, but no Dartmouth men. Fred is managing a recent acquisition for Koppers Company. He hopes to get back to another session of the Alumni College this summer.

Wayne Frerichs has recently returned to Phoenix after a tour of teaching duty on the "S.S. Hope." The ship was anchored at Colombo, Ceylon, and Wayne was the ear, nose and throat specialist. He found it a most interesting experience, a real change from his civilian practice.

Ralph Hersey recently resigned as chairman of the Norwood, Mass., Republican Town Committee, having served in the important post since 1964. In addition to his many civic and charitable activities, Ralph is a vice president of the Boston Safe Deposit and Trust Company, having been with this fine organization since leaving college. Ralph and Edith have three children, Diane, 18, Richard, 16, and Mark 13.

At Compton Advertising in New York City Reg Pierce has been promoted from vice president to senior vice president. He is division manager for the Chase Manhattan Bank, Phelps Dodge Industries, and Narco Avionics accounts. He came to Compton in 1959 as vice president and account supervisor after four years with Kenyon & Eckhardt. He and Nancy live in Greenwich, Conn., with their seven children, Reginald F. Ill, Crawford, Polly, MacGregor, Winston Ann, Sarah, and Cynthia.

George Hilton writes from Washington, D. C., that he is on a sabbatical from UCLA and is spending the academic year as acting curator of Land Transportation at the Smithsonian Institution. He says the duties are pleasant and afford him a good opportunity for research on his next (and seventh) book, "The Cable Car in America." George has been a full professor at UCLA since 1966. He plans to return to California in September and will take on the responsibility for organizing a special luncheon in December to celebrate the Dartmouth Bicentennial.

Again from the academic world, DanSmith reports that he is now in his second year as an Associate Professor of Education at the University of New Hampshire, having previously been a professor at Earlham College in Indiana. He and Emily are glad to be back in New England and are now living in Durham with their three children, Christi, 12, Boyd, 11, and Laurie, 4. In addition to doing the usual academic research and writing Dan reports that the family spends much of their time skiing, sailing, and playing tennis.

Bill Rosenfeld, a principal and founder of Arden Personnel Service in New York, is responsible for the advertising and marketing areas of the firm. Prior to founding his own firm, Bill was associated with Montgomery Ward and Mosler Safe Company. Among his outside activities have been Masonic work and the Boy Scouts in Teaneck, N. J., where he and Mary and their two children, Kim and Bill IV, now live.

Still climbing upward at General Electric is Lowell Steele, who has just been named manager of long-range planning and environmental studies at G.E.'s Research and Development Center in Schenectady, N.Y. In his new position he will be responsible for coordinating the prep- aration of the Center's long-range plans for technical work needed to support the company's operating components. He has an M.B.A. from Harvard, a Ph.D. from M.I.T., and a wife and four children at 720 St. David's Lane in Schenectady.

Miscellaneous news from here and there: Brad Morehouse recently headed the special gifts for the heart fund drive in Bridgeport (Conn.); Bob Delaney, director of the Edward R. Murrow Center of Public Diplomacy at Tufts University, spoke to the Hyannis (Mass.) Rotary Club's February meeting and then participated in a symposium at the Cape Cod Community College on the subject of "Where Do We Go From Here?" Dr. Nick Vorys, associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Ohio State, addressed the Fort Steuben (Ohio) Academy of Medicine; Dune Fitchet has been elected to the Winnetka Community House Board of Governors; Jim Brindley is president and general manager of W. A. Roosevelt Co. in La Crosse, Wis.; Jim Wyckoff was recently elected to a three-year term as a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York in Buffalo and continues as a member of the Regional Advisory Committee, Second National Bank Region; Jack Howard has recently formed his own company in Skaneateles, N. Y., to act as marketing agent for Canadian companies engaged in the asbestos and forest products fields.

Jim O'Neil, Head Agent for the alumni fund drive, and his many regional agents throughout the country are now hard at work in the early stages of raising $29,590. With the Third Century Fund Drive in full swing, the Class will have its work cut out for it to meet and top this assigned goal. Please get your contributions and pledges in as early as possible and do everything you can to help Jim and his crew.

Charlie Holt '45, at the University ofNew Hampshire, was honored as Coachof the Year by the American HockeyCoaches Association.
