I have attempted in this column to report on as wide a range of people as possible, not giving any one person too much exposure, but one name keeps popping up. His continued achievements have been of such stature that they should not go unnoticed and unappreciated by us all. On January 16 Dick Stoddart was named one of the ten outstanding young men of Cleveland by the Junior Chamber of Commerce of that city. He was chosen from 30 nominees. As if that were not enough, on January 28 at a dinner at Cleveland's Statler Hilton Puffy became the 1968 recipient of the Cleveland Junior Chamber of Commerce's Distinguished Service Award, "given annually to Greater Cleveland's Most Outstanding Young Man." He was cited for his "deep concern for the preservation and development of the parks and open spaces of the community which has caused him to become a leading expert and proponent of integrated transportation." He is one of the founders of the Shaker Lakes Regional Nature Center which will dedicate a building to house that Center soon. He is chairman of the Young Lawyers' Section of the Cleveland Bar Association. He is also a Cleveland Heights councilman. Our hats off for this outstanding achievement.

Lawyer Tom Maguire has been made a partner in the Toledo law firm of Robison, Curphey & O'Connell. He has been an associate of the firm since 1963. After graduation from Dartmouth, he attended Stanford University Law School and was graduated from Ohio State University Law School in 1963. He is a member of the Toledo and Ohio State bar associations. His home base is 3706 Treelawn Drive, Toledo, with wife Connie and their two daughters and a son.

A recent Marketing-Communications magazine article reported on Archie Whitehead. Archie is in the process of building a billion dollar a year business. "He is the 32-year-old president of The Whitehead Group, a parent company with six subsidiaries dealing in management counseling and research." After Dartmouth Archie bounced around in a lot of jobs and then got involved in executive recruiting, but felt that a "specifications-first, search-second approach" was the answer to a successful recruiting. He became a consultant to many recruiters for special searches. He has since branched out and now "a major ad agency employs a Whitehead unit to take readings on client attitudes toward the agency, because account-service people are incapable of really knowing where the agency stands." Archie, his wife Mary Ann and their two daughters age 7 and 3, live in New York and relax aboard his 31 foot yawl.

Fred Pitzner, one of our very able reunion panelists, has been appointed to the post of administrative vice president of operations at American National Bank in Chicago.

Hoyt Goodrich has been appointed investment officer, bond investment department at Aetna Life and Casualty in Hartford. TomMaguire has become a partner in the Toledo law firm of Robison, Curphey & O'Connell.

Mary Hitchcock Hospital announced the birth of Dwight Michael O'Hara to Mr. and Mrs. Dan O'Hara on December 5.

I ran into a few classmates at the top of Mt. Mansfield in Stowe a few weeks ago. Bob and Lesley Abbott were up enjoying the fabulous January conditions. I skied a few runs with Tryg Myhren who was staying down at Sugarbush with Ceej, his wife, and some of his associates from Glendinning Associates. Tryg was a little out of shape but I'm sure that a three-week trip to the European watering spots will get him back into top racing form.

Dues returns have produced a good deal of news for this column. Dave Lawson writes from Alexandria, Va., that he is finishing his Ph.D. dissertation in clinical psychology and working as a psychology intern in community mental health. He is also an associate of Richardson, Bellows, Henry & Co. a management consulting firm in Washington. Dave and his wife Vola have two sons, David age 7 and Peter age 3. In addition to all his other responsibilities, Dave is president of the Parkfairfax Citizens Association.

Judy Smith writes that Dr. Bill Smith has six months to go before finishing his residency in ophthalmology in Boston. After that they're not sure where they'll be off to, but I would venture a guess that it won't be too far from the ski slopes. Bill and Judy have two children, a girl 4½ and a boy 22 months.

Larry Hampton writes that he recently joined Glendinning Associates and has moved from Long Island to Westport. Larry, Joy and True are living at 7 Clover Lane in Westport, Conn.

Dr. Dick Bilinsky writes that he is moving to Springfield, Ill. He has been in the Chicago area for 2½ years while finishing his training in Internal Medicine and Renal diseases at Michael Reese Hospital. In Spring-field he will begin practice of Nephrology and be assistant director of the Renal Unit. Dick and his wife Sandy have two children, Betsy and Matthew, and are expecting number three this month. Their address in Springfield will be 21116 Willemoore and he reports that the door and the bar are always open.

Mori Mitsui has found the good quiet life outside the city. He has been with the architectural firm of Andrew C. Isaak in Manchester, N. H., for about a year. "My wife 'Mike' and I just bought a farm with a six room Cape for ourselves and our daughter Mia and a barn and six-acre pasture for our two horses, two dogs, and two cats."

In New York City Whit Marchand has been named an assistant vice president in the eastern division of Bankers Trust Company. After earning his M.B.A. at Tuck School in 1960, he went to work for Bankers Trust but took a year off in 1961-62 to serve in the Army. He and Stephanie and their two children live at 125 Haring Street, Closter, N. J. As extracurricular activities, he lists membership in the Englewood Field Club and the Englewood Club, Englewood, N. J.

Andy Thomas and his wife Nat spent a two-week vacation driving through England and Scotland last summer, driving 1800 miles in 12 days, but enjoyed Edinburgh most.

George Haines writes that he will be leaving Washington this year, but for a different reason than most departures from that city. The State Department is sending him to the American Consulate General at Genoa, Italy, in July after training at the Foreign Service Institute in Italian and Foreign Service Administrative management. "Since returning from a three-year tour in Germany in early '67, with a souvenir from that country who answers the name Ellen, I've been in the Politico Military office of the Deputy Undersecretary for Political Affairs."

Dave Shepard writes that he and his wife Beth and their two pretty daughters are living in Berkeley, Calif.

The big man in towels nowadays is JohnFoster. He has just been named divisional vice president of the Fieldale towel department of the Fieldcrest Division of Fieldcrest Mills, Inc. He joined Fieldcrest Mills after graduation and the following year became a sales representative. After that, it was steady progress upward: assistant distributor sales manager, 1960-62; product manager of the blanket department, 1962-66; manager of the Fieldale towel department, 1966-68. John and family live in Upper Montclair, N. J.

Lee Wight is living in Branford, Conn., where he has finished his fellowship in pediatric cardiology at Yale-New Haven Medical Center. He has joined a group in New Haven for the practice of pediatrics. Lee and his wife Jan have three children, Stephen 7½ Pamela 4½ and Julie 2½. There should be plenty to practice on right at home.

That's the news for this month. Keep those dues flowing in and let us know what you're doing on the back of the slips.
