It is no secret that it has been a rugged winter in almost all parts of the country but this is one for the book. There was so much snow at Sherm Adams' ski resort at Loon Mt., Lincoln, that he had to close the ski lifts for a couple days because of too much snow for skiing.
A news item came from a Grand Rapids publication with a good picture of SpenceSnedecor, who, in addition to maintaining a large practice and being Director of Orthopedics in Hackensack, N. J., was from 1960-1966 a member of the Board of Work Missions, and chairman of Christian Medical Council of Overseas work. In 1967 he surveyed 40 missionary hospitals in India for the World Council of Churches. He has also been influential in encouraging many doctors to consider entering the missionary service. He is a member of the General Synod Executive Committee and is widely known for his warmth, friendliness, and strong Christian commitment which has made him a most respected layman.
Al Foley's issue of TWENTY on February 28 confirms that the '20-'21 summer picnic will be held at the farm of Bob Burroughs '21 in Canterbury, N. H., which is known to be the home of the famous Shaker Colony. The additional information is the date - July 12. It is good to have the date established so well in advance so you all can start building your summer plans around that second Saturday in July.
From Bing Whitaker it is learned that Bill Anderson who lived on Sunshine Drive in St. Petersburg has died. No date and no further information as yet. At the February Dartmouth luncheon in St. Pete there was a delegation of eight '20s attending: Fenderson, Fiske, Pick Hill, visiting Buttons Hill,Hitchcock, Sigler, Myers, and Macomber, Whitaker didn't show. Ted and Mary Marden were in St. Petersburg for a short stay and Hazel and I had a nice day with them. By the way, the Daily Dartmouth of October 4, 1968 carried a candid shot taken at the edge of a block of '20 football seats but it did get a good picture of Ted Marden and his son-in-law.
Bill Carter, although on the job in Kalamazoo, is working on plans for our grand 50th Reunion in 1970 with Dal Dalrymple back in Meriden, N. H., assisting with the preparations. Some have been looking forward to this reunion for 10 years, 20 years, and many have been making this their objective for many years.
It is not too early to start planning now for Hanover in June 1970. Headquarters will probably be in Middle Mass. which has been renovated and much improved in comfort and convenience with a limited number of rooms available at the Inn for classmates who may have incapacities
Bob Taylor, son of Elinor and SteinySteinholtz (now in the Army), is continuing to make records in skiing. He was named to the U.S. Alpine Team and is on his way to Switzerland for several months of competition. He recently won the Corcoran Cup at Waterville Valley, N. Paul Bowerman is on his last year or teaching at Cal Tech, Sierra Madre, Calif., and will be retiring in June of this year.
Last year was a hot year in Florida and Ken Fenderson beat the heat by taking a cruise on the Swedish line to Canada, Cape Breton, Newfoundland, and Bermuda. He is planning another cruise for this coming summer. His two children live in his area. He has seven grandchildren and one greatgrandchild and perhaps by the time this MAGAZINE is received it may be two. Another who is still working is Bob Winters, Valley Stream, N. Y. His work, I believe, is manager of Truck Sales. Wade Smith is also still working part time with Oldsmobile Sales. He and Bertha had been living with her sister and husband, Dr. Edward Roberts, at Pebble Beach but they are enjoying living by themselves having leased a small house overlooking Monterey Bay.
Roger Horton, Worcester, is still bowling both 10 pins and candle pins and his son having recently acquired a sportswear store in Farmington, Conn., Rog is helping him set up his records and after 42 years with Filene's he should be a good guide.
It is good to hear from Bill Shea of San Diego, Brains Turner of Rumson, N. J., AlPalmer of Ormond Beach, Fla., FrancisTrent of Toledo, and John Amsden of Hanover, although they had no particular news.
A card just arrived from Sherry andElizabeth Baketel. They have been doing a nostalgic trip, their first drive to Florida in five years. They called on Russ and AdaKeep at Hilton Head Island, S. C.; Jim midRuth Chilcott, Country Club of Florida; George and Marion Rand '19; Eddie andGinnie Bowen, Delray; Charlie and FrancesMcGoughran, Ft. Lauderdale. They were tired of East Coast traffic so flew to Nassau, staying at the Royal for a couple weeks. They are going to wend their way home via the West Coast of Florida hoping to see Boots and Jean LeBoutillier in Englewood and Dick Weifelman '19 and we are hoping they will look us up on Longboat Key. Eddie, the athlete, won a silver tray in the championship mixed doubles the day the Baketels were with him. All this news from Sherry on a post card.
