Whew! After a short summer break, I'm back with a lot of news to relay. So, let's get started. First, via "real" mail, Courtney Murphy Hewson writes to say that she is currently living in Manhattan with her husband, John Hewson (Colgate '91). The couple got married in September 1998 in Keene, N.H. At the time she sent me her message, she was about to complete a master's in social work at Columbia University. If everything went as planned, Courtney should now be working at a foster care organization, where she was going to be coordinating between biological parents, their children who are in foster homes, and the family court system. While Courtney was in school, she had an internship with this organization and has, thus far, met some pretty amazing people who are willing to open their doors to New York City's neediest children. Courtney writes, "I sometimes feel miles and miles away from my experiences at Dartmouth." Experiences that she says she appreciates more and more as time passes. Next I received word that Erin Murphy deserves some belated congratulations. This past March, Erin and her co-oralist Arlo Devlin-Brown emerged victorious in the 87th Annual Moot Court Competition at Harvard Law School. I heard that Erin handled herself well, arguing before a panel composed of Justice Laurence Silberman of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, Justice Diane Wood from the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and Justice Stephen G. Breyer, associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

Jen Evers wrote from San Francisco to say that she would be graduating in June from Stanford University with a master's in East Asian studies. After graduating Jen plans to begin a new job in Michigan as associate dean of upper school admissions and assistant director of financial aid at the Cranbrook Schools. The Cranbrook Schools is a private school about 30 minutes outside of Detroit. Apparently the school is considering starting a Chinese program next year and Jen would be helping to get that started too. While living in San Francisco, Jen spent a lot of time with Janet Heiss, who lives in San Francisco and works in Palo Alto. Janet, as of Jen's writing, was working for a venture capital firm and had just bought a loft in the "South of Market area."

Some more news from California: DavidGonzalez wrote to say that he had just finished his last year at Stanford Law. Further, he is not pregnant, married, and remains heterosexual. Fishing his car keys out of an elevator shaft after he had dropped them down 14 stories has been the highlight of his life since graduation.

Sarah Inwood wrote to say that she spent the past four years living in Utah, Colo., Arizona, and New Mexico. When she wrote, she was planning to move to Los Angeles, Calif., to teach middle school science and history at Harvard-Westlake. At Harvard Wesdake Sarah will be coaching and she will be involved in their extensive outdoor programs. Prior to taking this job in L.A., Sarah worked in southern Utah as a wilderness instructor for a therapeutic wilderness program. Sarah also sent word about ChrisCarson, who is currently living in Salt Lake City, Utah. Chris is teaching severely learning-disabled teenagers in the Salt Lake City public schools. And, within the past year, he got married. Last bit of news (I think I'm at my word limit) is from Holly PattersonSchensky. Holly has been working as an event planner for Radcliffe College at its alumnae association for the past three years. Just recently Holly had her first article accepted for publication at Sport Diver magazine. This fall Holly and her husband, Jared, will be re-locating to Chicago with Jared's work. As of her writing, she said that she had no immediate job plans and any offers would be welcome. Before signing off, I just wanted to let you know that my mail address has changed. You can send your "real" mail (as opposed to e-mail) to me at the address below. Real mail is definitely appreciated because it balances out the bills and flyers that usually appear in my mailbox.
