John Cornehlscn writes: "Russ Goudey wrote some music for a song for our 40th. Woodbridge had the music played for him and wrote some words. The match was horrible! As a result, the three of us wound up at the Dartmouth Club bar (with appropriate glass in hand) — Goudey hummed the music and I attempted to be the interlocutor by putting it into Imabic Pentameter so that Woodbridge could write words that would fit.

"As for news of other classmates, FrankWilliams is still strong and sturdy second bass in the University Glee Club. We had a rather historic fall. We produced a stereo record (price $5.00). We used the Columbia Chapel to maximize the acoustical effects. The record is quite a success. I'm not sure you can hear Frank or myself. If you can, of course, we would be doing our parts poorly. At our Christmas party concert which we hold in the Grand Ballroom of the Waldorf, we ran into Al Fisher. He and his wife Sally have attended all, I believe, of the Alumni College sessions and they plan to join Bob Bottome's and BillColes's trip to Venezuela.

"My son Jim '64 is with McGraw Hill, and our daughter Jean is an upperclassman at Colby Junior. There is a move on foot to make Pat (our Dartmouth Club bartender) an honorary member of our class at the 40th. I think it's a great idea. Among other attributes he has a son graduating in this year's class."

The Travelers Insurance Co. may buy the Massachusetts Company. Larry Sykes is president of the latter firm ... Dave Cogan was one of four Harvard ophthalmologists honored for outstanding ophthalmic achievement. He is director of the Howe Laboratory of Ophthalmology at Harvard. Dave is also principal recipient of the $27,-000 Trustees Award of Research to Prevent Blindness.

Inches Pierce tells us: "Bless your heart for this '29 job you are doing. Not much news up here. As busy as ever. We have just finished a new 9½ million dollar wing on our new medical center — quite something. We expect our 12th grandchild in March. Hope to see you in June."

Paul Jameson has been elected a director of the National Distillers and Chemical Corp. He is executive vice-president and secretary of the diversified liquor, metals and chemicals company.

Bob Monahan has his troubles with the advent of the snowmobile. He says that there is no question that such a vehicle has a place, especially when piloted by an experienced and well-equipped operator. But it is also true that they have no place in cemeteries, deer yards, Christmas tree plantations, golf courses, and other places of special interest. Various land management groups like those responsible for the White Mountain National Forest, the Adirondack Forest Preserve, and many others have attempted to distinguish those trails and roads where snowmobiles are welcome and those, such as Tuckerman's Ravine, which they can skip.

Saw two good snapshots of more than passing interest: one shows Karl Michael being thrown into the pool after we beat Princeton in swimming for the first time since 1959. The other shows President JohnDickey handling a wheelbarrow full of snow, trundling it to the snow sculpture being constructed on the campus. He has been pitching in like this for the past 24 years, but this is the first candid shot of him being caught in the act.

This from Lew Clarke: "All I can say is that nothing much happens up here in the country (Waukegan, Ill.). I am still practicing law, still married to the same wife, and still have the same two children. My older boy, Lew Jr., is practicing law with the Appellate Division of the Corporate on Counsel's Office in Washington, D. C. My younger boy, after three years in the Army, is finishing his work at Milton College, Milton, Wise. I manage to take a little time off to sail on the Great Lakes, and last year brought a motor-sailer back from Fort Lauderdale, Fla."

Claude Stevens is retiring from his post as assistant secretary of the Berlin (Conn.) Savings Bank. He has been connected with the bank since his graduation. ... The Board of Selectmen of Wilbraham, Mass., announced that Dick Danforth, who is town collector, has been appointed to serve also as town treasurer and town clerk. Dick, a former selectman, has lived in Wilbraham since 1942.

Cart Strickland is the proud grandfather (number two) of Geoffrey Hunt Manning, born February 8 and weighing in at 9 lbs 5 oz. Cart's daughter Cynthia Manning and child are doing very well, thank you.
