APRIL 1969 JACK DE GANGE

As with basketball, the Big Green skaters ended on a high note, defeating Brown, 5-3, at Davis Rink to finish with a 7-14-2 record and a tie for fourth place (5-7) with Yale in the Ivy League race.

The victory over Brown was virtually a carbon copy of a 5-3 victory over St. Lawrence in mid-February. "These were our two finest games," said Coach Ab Oakes. "The season was a good step in our rebuilding process and those two wins showed the capability of our players. With anticipated help from a halfdozen members of the freshman team (12-9), we should continue to improve next season."

The sophomore line of Ken Davidson, Jeff Kosak, and Dave Hill collected a total of 92 points to lead the scoring. Davidson had 33 points while Hill had 31 and Kosak 28. Hill's 15 goals were a team high and led Davidson's 14 and Kosak's 13.

Senior Joe Fahey, recipient of the Martha M. Phelan Award as the most valuable player, tied Kosak in scoring and set a Dartmouth record with 24 assists for a defenseman, eclipsing the mark of 22 held by Dan Goggin since 1957. Fahey also scored four goals.

Fahey and Captain Robie Cann are the key men who will graduate. The Indians have elected Denis O'Neill, a junior defenseman from Greens Farms, Conn., as captain for 1969-70. O'Neill also plays soccer and lacrosse but has been idled through much of his collegiate career with knee injuries. He missed 13 hockey games this winter but surgery appears to have been successful as he returned to the lineup in mid-February to help spark the late-season success.
