Captain Leonard R. Kojm
MAY 1969

Captain Leonard R. Kojm '47, USN, is enjoying the view through his own private periscope mounted in his captain's cabin aboard the fleet oiler USS Ponchatoula. It was a surprise gift from the staff members of his last command, Submarine Division 12, as a reminder of his 16 years of submarine duty. Made of discarded parts and scrap, the periscope was installed one night during the captain's absence. The next morning when the captain looked into the periscope, he had a second surprise. At first through the viewer he saw his own ship, the Poncho, but then as he operated the focusing handle, a curvaceous girl appeared!

Actually Captain Kojm has little time for admiring pin-ups or for reminiscing about his submarine days. The Ponchatoula fuels up at the U.S. Naval Base in the Philippines and then makes a large swing along Vietnam's coast delivering fuel to Seventh Fleet combat ships.
