Thomas B. R. Bryant '18 (r) received the Alumni Fund's 1968 Fred A. Howland Trophy for classes more than 40 years out of college. Fund Chairman Richard D. Lombard '53 in making the presentation at the New York dinner on April 8 read the following citation:
When Tom Bryant became Head Agent for his class in 1962 he was not entirely sure he could improve on the performance of his distinguished predecessors. After all, 1918 had already registered 100% participation and met its dollar objective many times. But Tom, a good judge of men, recruited a stellar team of agents to work with him, as nearly all of them did for seven years. In this period under Tom's steady leadership, the Class of 1918 increased its participation by 17% and brought its dollar production to 132% of objective! The climb upward never flagged from one year to the next and the crowning achievement arrived in the Class' 50th Reunion year with an all-time participation and dollar totals topped off with a Green Derby victory, the first since 1947.
The Alumni Fund Committee takes great pleasure in honoring the Class of 1918 for this fine achievement, but more particularly the man whose capabilities made it possible, by presenting the Fred A. Howland Award to Tom Bryant as the outstanding Head Agent of a class more than forty years out of College.
