The Convocation, with the title of "Inquiry and Scholarship in the Society of the Seventies," is over and can be characterized as a huge success. The imposing list of speakers included: Dean Chapman; President Kemeny; President Toll of the State University of New York; William D. Carey, Management Consultant of Arthur D. Little, Inc.; Prof. James Cox of the English Department; Dr. Roger Egeberg, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Health, Education and Welfare; Dr. James B. Wyngaarden, Professor of Medicine at Duke; and Dr. James Bryant Conant, former President of Harvard. The crowd of some 350 at the dinner Friday evening were still enthusiastically buzzing about the material presented by the speaker. A highlight of the dinner program was the introduction of the sixteen candidates for the first Dartmouth M.D. Degree since 1914.
The meeting of the DMS Alumni Council and Class Secretaries was . held on the Thursday prior to the Convocation. The well-attended gathering considered in detail the changes and proposed changes at the School with Dean Chapman answering innumerable questions from the floor. At the business meeting following the writer was elected Chairman, Paul Lena M'51 Vice- Chairman and Jack Norris M'28 Secretary.
On September Ist, 53 first-year students registered, and on September 14 th, 52 second-year students. It is interesting to note that seven first-yearers and nine second- yearers are married, while those classes list respectively seven and five females.
