Summer Term Nears Parity
FEBRUARY 1971

Taking a first step toward converting the summer program into a "full parity term," the College is planning to offer for Summer '71 as strong a curriculum as possible within the summer budget. Plans include a return of activity in the arts at Hopkins Center, a series of concentrated study fields from which to choose, and elimination of the residential high school program.

According to Gregory S. Prince Jr.. director of summer programs, a student could conceivably substitute this summer's program for any other term, although to do so would require him to carry a heavy load of three courses in eight weeks.

The fields of concentration scheduled are Latin American studies, comparative literature, conflict and change in the modern world, studies of environment, sciences, contemporary American society, foreign language study, visual arts, and a computer-based curriculum.

In commenting on the value of the fully equal fourth term, Prince pointed out that it would give both the students and the College additional flexibility in many directions and make it easier to attract visiting professors to the benefit of both the students and the Dartmouth faculty.
