There are two major items to report this time, and I'll take them in chronological order. (1) Our Frank Harrington has had to slow down, on doctor's orders, and one step was to resign as one of our two trustees. (In case some forget, the other is Bill Buchanan, who did such a fine job taking over on an emergency basis on the Third Century Fund campaign.) Frank's four children gave a wonderful testimonial gift in his name. (Because at least two newspapers, one in Boston, gave incorrect information here is a brief note.) The three sons are: Frank Jr. '50; Thomas '54; George '61; his daughter is Mrs. John M. Stevenson, Fort Worth, Texas. They "banded together to create a fund of $80,000 (not $30,000 as the above reported in error) endow the Frank L. Harrington Hopkins Center Fund in recognition of his long service to the College and his creative interest in the arts." The local paper showed President Kemeny and Trustee Charlie Zimmerman '23, presenting Frank with a copy of Paul Sample's famous painting of the campus and Dartmouth

(2) Class officers' weekend is no, history; Friday-Saturday (and Sunday for few), April 30-May 1. We were represent ed by Ted and Harriet Nilsen, Stan ann Barbara Chittick, Phil and Lou Van Huyck, Butts and Harriet Lamson; and Chince and Margaret Allen. Aside the regular business, the two excellent talks by President Kemeny, the socializing en masse, all the above had a pleasant evening Saturday, May 1, chez Allen with Margaret's buffet specialty. This is not the place to discuss such an emotion-stirring issue a; the fors-and-ag'ns of some form of coeducation at Dartmouth; let it suffice to say that communication was both quantitatively and (I believe-) qualitatively achieved in a very constructive degree and way. I'll risk one suggestion: read the article by David Lawrence in the January 11, 1971 issue of US News & World Report, "A Plea to Alumni not to Forsake Their Colleges"- some seem to have done so in disagreement.

Here's something for our class to think about . . . and do something to improve our image with ourselves. 1924 has, at this writing, 272 living graduates of whom 72% pay our $10. class dues; 127 living non-graduates, of whom 43% pay our class dues. It may surprise many to know thai our high number of non-graduates... and this group includes many very loyal members... is not the highest; there are eight with more—l945 highest with 190. for obvious reasons.

Miscellaneous: A long printed letter from Alex Gibson; the major item (other than his threat/promise to run down for a ball game as both he and May Bess do for basketball in the winter) is the closing of historic McIndoe Falls, Vt., Academy, with which both he and his father have been very closely associated over the long years: also that both are trustees of the Academy. Alex currently so... Putty Blodgett's son Putnam (or Young Put '53) has been reappointed by the Governor of Vermont as a district environmental commissioner, for Bradford in District V... Very good to see both Putty and Charlotte, also Dave andJulie Dyche (both living in Bradford) here in Hanover recently... Lots of travelers arid returning travelers... but I select only one to mention because it is not a tourism trip but a return to their Laconia, N. H., island home over on Lake Winnepe-saukee of Les and Mildred Sycamore. It would be enough for most people to give their services—Les as head of the X-ray unit he set up in the hospital in Haiti and Mildred for her devotion to the children, both inside and out of the hospital there . . . but both have had serious health problems that make the service just that much more remarkable... The temptation is great to share with you the aches-painsand tribulations of other classmates, for there are several good stories of personal courage. Some of you know one or two of them at least... for now: hasta la vista.
