The pros and cons of coeducation, in any of its various guises, were apparently uppermost in the minds of 72 alumni, parents, '75ers and friends of Dartmouth who gathered May 7 for a dinner meeting winding up the cub's year.
Ad Winship '42, Director of Development, was the guest speaker from Hanover, and after addressing himself briefly and eloquently to eight prospective members of the Class of 75, he deftly and informatively fielded a barrage of questions all, in one way or another, relating to the College's complex problem in seeking a solution to the admission or exclusion of female students in the Dartmouth family.
He spoke following a dinner at the Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains and a very brief business meeting at which the club's current officers and directors were unanimously reelected.
Ad's presentation was followed by showing of the filmed highlights of the 1970 football season. Although the hour was late, and staying for the film was optional, very few departed before seeing the final touchdown of the Penn game.
Seated at the '75 table were Bruce Carlson, Dave Hunt, Dave Hyde, Tim Kahn, Brandon Lachner, Bob Quinn, Greg Stone, and Gary Ungar. Bob Ehinger Jr. and Frank Paprota had conflicts and could not attend.
Parents present were the Robert Carlsons, Bob Ehringers '43, James Hunts, Bob Hyde '44, the Arthur Kahns, Marshall Lachner, the Jack Quinns, Jack Stones and Alex Ungars '45.
Undergraduates were represented by the John Gianises, parents of Tom Gianis '73, and the Stuart Lefkowitses, parents of Bob 69 and Don '73.
Others on hand were the Horace Bakers 27, Dick Baldwins '42, Marty Bownes '63 Jim Casserlys '46, Stan Clarks '54, Bill Feads 44, Sandy Fead '70, who escorted Jean Hay, a very attractive representative of the present version of coeds.
Also the Jack Fosters '58, Kirby Fowlers '56, Jim Gilfillans '43, Tom Gillespie '27, Dick Griggses '60, Ed Hobbies '59, Mike Ingham (Rutgers '72, son of the Van Inghams 27 and brother of the Sandy Inghams '60, who were there, and of John '64).
Also Vic King '59, Carl Lindenmeyr '27, the John Morses '44, Bill Russells '63, Dick Sameths '59, Gary Schwartzes '62, Harry Ungar '49 and Art Williams '63.
Next year's officers will be Van Ingham 27, president, Al Ungar '45, vice president, Bill Russell '63, treasurer, Vic King 31, secretary, and Herb Kessler '61, Ed Hobbie 59, Art Williams '63, and Kirby Fowler '56 directors.
