The objective of Dartmouth's cross-country team this fall is to qualify for the NCAA championship meet in late November.

"Our entire training program is geared toward the NCAA meet," said Coach Ken Weinbel. "We want to do well during the dual season and we'll have to finish higher in the Heptagonal and New England meets and I think we can make it."

At this juncture, the Green stands 3-1 in dual action. They trimmed Rhode Island and New Hampshire in the first triangle but slipped at Yale (25-30) while blanking Columbia.

"The win over Rhode Island was important but the loss to Yale a disappointment," said Weinbel. "We'll have to come back in the Heps."

Sophomore Chris Peisch and senior Tom Shiland have been Dartmouth's pacesetters. Peisch was the leader against URI while Shiland led the Green contingent at Yale.

Dartmouth's biggest asset is that the leading runners are working in a pack, keeping close together and assuring the Green of a solid score that won't be jeopardized by one weak link.
