"Freshman teams" at Dartmouth this winter is not a completely accurate phrase. In swimming and track, Dartmouth has junior varsity squads in competition but on all but one front the situation is consistent—the Indians are winning.
With five players averaging in double figures, the frosh basketball team has an 8-5 record. It's not a spectacular group but one that wins for Coach Tom O'Connor.
The same holds for hockey where Coach Jim Higgins has battled injuries and illness to keep his squad intact and has built a 7-6-1 record. Peter Quinn, a center, and goalie Kevin O'Brien, a converted center, have been the leaders in the absence of injured Captain Chuck Solberg. Quinn had seven goals in one game.
Dartmouth's jayvee swimmers have a 5-3 record and in track the varsity reserves have a 4-1 record. The only team that's below .500 is squash, where the Indians have a 2-5 record.
